Owner description: RED Mountain is the last great, unspoiled resort. Located in Rossland, BC, along the famous "Powder Highway," RED delivers 4,200 acres of pristine skiing unfettered by overdevelopment. For 2013-14, we've added nearly 1,000 acres of mostly-intermediate terrain on Grey Mountain - an entirely new peak. (Well, OK, Grey's been there for millions of years, but without runs or lifts on it.) With 300"/7.6m of annual snowfall, wide-open groomers, epic vertical (2,919ft/890m!), in-bounds cat-skiing, 360 degree descents off select peaks, a rich tradition, and - phew! - the BEST tree runs in BC, it's no wonder The NY Times voted us their #8 "Best Place in the World to Visit in 2013." Other accolades include #1 in Powder's "Ski Town Throwdown," and "Most Underrated Resort" by Skiing. Around here, we pride ourselves on fresh turns that you don't have to fight for... Aside from the legendary skiing and snowboarding, RED boasts world-class cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, movie nights and après action in Rafters, "North America's Best Ski Area Bar" according to Powder Magazine (and us...). Modern ski in/out lodging, fine dining, a professional ski school, guiding, high-performance rentals, daycare that's just steps away from gourmet espresso, and a free shuttle to Rossland round out our offering. With Rossland's turn-of-the-century charm and our legendarily friendly locals, RED Mountain Resort is the full vacation package: Everything you need. Nothing you don't. (The only fluff we offer is our snow!)

This is fantastic mountain for what my wife and I enjoy. Steep, fast, challenging terrain is the norm here. There is not very much in the way of beginner terrain. There has not been much snow in the past few weeks, so the snow conditions make off-piste riding even more challenging. The lift system is old, and the on mountain facilities are a bit limited, but this is what we like about Red. If you are expecting a "built-up" resorty type facility then you will probably be disappointed. This may change in the near future as they have major expansion plans in the works. Quite honestly, I hope things remain the same... With good snow... This place is fantastic. I am rating it as average because it is not for everyone... A family with small children may have some difficulties with the terrain and lift system.

Excellent powder conditions, as a local powder lover, I love that it's a half hour from home. Even on the warm days, it's still awesome. Most runs are centre groomed. People come from all over the world to ski Red, you never know who you'll meet on the chair :)

We need to get back here with some fresh powder, old chairs, but great runs and no crowds makes for allot of fine skiing. We did get stuck with some clouds, but go up to Granite Mountain above the clouds. Not much beginner terrain and they close up at three, but you feel like you have the place to yourself with essentially no lines and a very few other skiers/boarders to deal with. We were there on the 116th carnival weekend and except for the drinking and celebrating in town, it was hard to tell from the crowds on the slopes. I suspect we would have seen many more of the locals if we had a real powder day.

Red Mountain offers such an abundance of trails that you are never bombarded by crowded slopes...the most beautiful ski experience in Canada

I am a 50 something experienced skier, and after reading some of the reviews of red about steepness and cliffs was a bit nervous.

It is a great mountain for a good skier who likes to ski in trees. The pitch is excellent and the glading in the trees is very well done with generally plenty of space. Over all I would say it has consistently as good tree skiing as anywhere I have skied before.

Not much groomer skiing for those who don't want to venture off piste.
