“It's ok place to stay but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

a friend and i stayed at the sandman for a business trip. it was right in a part of town that everything was nearby, which was good. the hotel room was clean, there was a dennys right at the hotel which was pretty good. we didn't use the amenities like the pool or steam room but it was available for use. however the only amenity that failed miserably was the internet. i could not get on the internet at all unless i went into the common area when you come into the hotel, which at that didn't even work (wireless). they had a business centre in which i can use but I wanted to do my work in the privacy of my own room, which i was unable to do. i called the front desk to ask why it wasn't working and the explanation i got was "there are possibly children in the hotel, that can be streaming things onto their devices and that is what could be the problem. I really can't find out in each room who is streaming." first i didn't ask her to do that and i just said fine and hung up. however at 4am that morning i attempted to log on to my device to do some work and still, nothing.

so, it boils down to this. either the hotel needs to get a stronger router or not advertise they have wifi available in the rooms because you really can't get it.

is the hotel nice and people are polite? yes of course. is it clean and worth staying at? absolutely. is it good for people who have laptops, and need to get work done? unless you want to go to the lobby or dennys and see if you can get work done, then no its not until they update their digital devices for wifi or figure out how to get a stronger signal for those who choose want to work in their pi's with out the distraction of people coming in and out or talking.

I stayed in the newer tower section, Nice rooms, small kitchen with stove/fridge and lots of counter space. The room was very big, bed very comfortable. Room was very clean and quite. Parking is not an issue. Yes, the parking lots can be a little tight and full ( this place is always busy) but they do have underground parking that in the winter is a blessing, as you don't wake up to your vehicle burried in snow. The attached 24hr Denny's makes it super convenient if you want to grab a bite with out having to go out side or leave the property. This Sandman is easy to find and very central to all. My work as lead me to stay here many times over the past 18 years ( +/- 50 times ) and have always had a great stay with great service. I will return

I have stayed in Prince George a few times but this is my first and last time at this property. The first problem was finding a parking spot. The parking lot is small and awkward to negotiate with anything other than a small car. You may end up parking on the street. They told me it was okay to park in the no-parking area because the city probably wouldn't ticket or tow me. However, they don't seem to shovel the snow off the sidewalk so you may end up carrying your luggage and not rolling a wheeled suitcase through a snowbank. There is no elevator so, if you are located on the second floor, you'll have to haul your luggage up the stairs. The hallway carpets were filthy. They have attempted to update the rooms by adding a more modern looking wallpaper but it was wrinkled and water-stained and the seams were clearly visible. Also, I could smell the glue on the paper and it was a bit nauseating. I have seen this same wallpaper updating scheme at a couple of other older Sandman properties (I've stayed at numerous Sandman properties across the country). They must have used the same contractor for all of them that were updated because they are all the same poor quality workmanship. There was a desk/table in the room but it was so cluttered that I had to move the coffee maker and all the advertising materials onto the floor in order to clear enough space to set up a laptop. The internet was intermittent all evening, making it almost useless even though I spent nearly an hour talking to the tech support hotline. It was a bit better in the morning (which wasn't much use to me since I had to get up and get to work), so I suspect they don't have enough bandwidth. The hotel is located on a busy street, with lots of heavy truck traffic, so noisy at all times including throughout the night unless you have a room farther away from the street. Mattress was okay. Very small old-style bathroom (toilet and tub/shower in one tiny room and sink outside) that was only updated by installing a curved shower curtain rod and a fancy-looking but cheap quality newer style sink faucet and vanity. Might be okay for budget travellers who are willing to compromise a lot, but not good for business travellers who want to do some work in the room and get a good night's sleep. Sandman Inn hotels have a range of places. Some are new and good (e.g. Abbotsford) but others, like this one, are old and run down even though they've made a poor attempt at updating them. So, I disagree with the other poster who said that the Sandman Inns are consistent because my experience is the opposite.

Room Tip: If you are willing to spend a bit more, go to the Sandman Signature. Note that the Sandman Inn in Q...

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years. Travelling with my kids various sports teams (hockey lacrosse etc.) This really is the best mid price hotel in PG. If you want something higher end stay at the Sandman Signature Inn across town.

Pros; reasonable rates (for PG), great location (Denny's onsite, Moxie's steps away), big suites with kitchenettes available, swimming pool, clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff.

Cons; wifi needs improvement, I had problems from my room. Denny's is attached so you end up eating there.......

Room Tip: Stay in the tower with the suites and park in the back parking lot. You're steps from the elevat...

I stay in Prince a lot. This place is great for separate bedrooms and longer stays. Pool is small and steam room is nice. Staff is very friendly and helpful ( to us anyway). Close walk to couple good places to eat nearby and affordable room rates. Beds as also in good to great condition which can be hard to find in Prince for under $150

I have been staying at this hotel for many years. They continue to update a renovate. I am a Star Plus member and recommend you join as well. This will give you upgrades when you arrive. I stay in the section that has the suites. I stayed in a room like a bachelor pad. 2 queen beds, full kitchen, full size fridge. The room was clean and very quiet. The staff are always very friendly. I was disappointed to hear that Vicky from the front desk had gone to another Sandman. Her past service would be enough to get me to switch.

The BIG downside for me is I travel for business and the internet is almost non existent! So if you need to connect, you may want reconsider this hotel.

I did not use the pool or steam room but it looked very clean.

Denny's restaurant is attached and the food was awful! The only thing worse than the food was the service!

Moxies is next door so I would eat there.

Sandman's are very consistent and I will continue to stay with is hotel chain.

Room Tip: Join the Star Plus Program and ask for a upgrade.
