No reason to look any further! This motor in is very convenient to Highway 97 (if you are heading south, you go past the casino and make a u-turn to head north). The rooms have been recently renovated (except for the kitchenette and air conditioner, but why fix what isn't broken). Even though I would never normally stay in a smoking room, I did stay in one as it was recently done and hadn't been smoked in (or at least very few times). The restaurant adjoining the motor inn has good food. Prime Rib buffet on Saturday night for $18.95! Good breakfasts as well. All in all, a decent overnight stay. Next time I am going through Prince George, I'll be sure to book in here again.

The Good:

Right off the highway
Easy access to rooms
Good parking
Strong wireless
Several restaurants within 200m
Front desk staff are friendly and accomodating

Comment: Many crews use this hotel, they can be noisy at times.

The Bad:

Very old - everything is worn out, even the coffee makers...
Highway noise at the front part of the property

Room Tip: Try to stay on the second floor and closer to the back to avoid noise

The front desk staff were excellent, fast, friendly. I got one of the renovated rooms and there was nothing the matter with it. Total little kitchen unit, new flat panel tv, new everything really. The only thing, as a basic hotel, very limited soap, hair shampoo in tear packages, so bring your own. They have an excellent wireless system for internet.

My family has been staying at the Carmel for almost 20 years. under the old manager, it really was not a good place to stay. But now that the managers have changed its GREAT!! the rooms are clean and are getting a renovations done, the restaurant is better then ever the staff is caring, and if you don't like something they go out of their way to change it for you. they now even have coin laundry for guests. the Carmel may not be the most fancy hotel going, but it really is a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: you can get discounts if you have CAA, AAA, or BCAA, are over 65 years old, or are traveling on busi...

We selected this hotel because it was pet friendly and reasonably priced. The room is sub-standard with two double beds for 2 adults and 1 child, plus pet. The room stank from the moment you opened the door. Having allergies, it was extremely hard to breathe in the room. The carpet was urine stained from other pets. I inquired at the front desk, where she told me that they combined three (3) industrial cleaners/deoderizers to clean the room. We have stayed in many pet friendly hotels, but none as bad as this one. Read the reviews, they are helpful, when people take the time to evaluate honestly and fairly.

Not wanting to spend $140 per night at the Sandman, we had to find a decent hotel for a couple nights that would accept a large dog, but also something we could feel somewhat good about as we were travelling with 2 young children, ages 4 & 8. We called between the Carmel & the 97 Motor Inn, and there was a $5 price difference. We decided to pay the $5 more for the Carmel because they offered high speed internet and had a restaurant on site - when we got to the motel we discovered that the restaurant is now closed. I would suggest that if you want a place to stay and have a pet, go to the 97 Motor Inn instead (located next door). If you need the internet, go to a coffee bar where they offere free wireless. If you want a queen size bed instead of a double, go to the 97 Motor Inn. It wasn't noisy at the hotel and the front desk receptionist was helpful and friendly, but I need a larger bed than a double to get any amount of decent sleep.
