We enjoyed dinner at the bistro on the first day of their "october fest" promotion. We didn't go for the "special plate" featuring ham, bratwurst, etc. too much sodium for us. Instead we chose from their regular menu and found the food to be excellent and very reasonable priced.

We were just passing through for a coffee and maybe a cake. No espresso in a place like this? Unbelievable. So we took a risk on a drip. Mistake. After a 15 minute wait, one and one quarter cups arrived with a promise that the shortfall would appear in 5 minutes or so, as soon a fresh batch was made. Did this also mean that the partial cups in front of us were stale? Would we really get a hot cup on the top-up? Decided to take no further risks and abandoned ship as time was also pressing. At least we were not charged for a very indifferent cup. The first slipways enough. Funny thing is we had enjoyed a nice lunch here 3 years ago on an earlier visit to Penticton.

Everything we ate at this restaurant was great! The duck sandwich, pork cheeks and soup had a wonderful combinations of flavors. Those delicious items combined with great wine and an unbeatable sunset and it makes for one stunning evening.

The owner's of the BB we stayed at recommended the bistro and made sure we had a reservations. We were there for the Ironman event in August and had heard from others about the winery. Spectacular view of the lake from the upstairs patio at sunset. In L.A., a restaurant like this would be noisy and crowded, not the case here. Then again we were having dinner at 8pm on a Monday. I ordered the flat iron steak and it was better than expected. My friend order the citrus glazed chicken leg confit on a bed of white beans and it was out of this world. I don't like dark meat and never eat the skin. I would never order a chicken leg but it won me over. The leg was plump and the glazed skin crisped to perfection. I had the Mosaic wine which was on special and went well with the steak. I also do not like white chocolate but we ordered the white chocolate tart with berries and vanilla ice cream. Everything was on point.

We stopped at Hillside's restaurant on a cloudy day in late August. We had to sit inside but the food was worth it. My husband had a vegetarian sandwich he loved and it came with a great fresh side salad. I had the cheese platter and did not finish. This is my favourite restaurant on the wine tours (better than Burrowing Owl and Quail's Gate) for the food. if you are inside it is not very special. If you want the best experience make a reservation for a view table outside.
