Don't be fooled by the fancy new name, Waterfront Suites and Marina. The place is a mess. We'll go back to the downtown hotels and B & Bs where we were warmly welcomed and thoughtfully cared for. The friendliness that makes Nanaimo special is not in evidence here. The treatment we received was shocking. On arrival, our credit card was swiped twice – for the room charge (with insistence that we pay for the whole stay in advance) and again for a “security deposit” four times the usual amount. We travel widely for business and pleasure, and have never been treated this way, even in big cities and distant countries. They advertise kitchenettes, but guests are not permitted to cook seafood – in a waterfront marina motel! We were told there is a strict no-smoking policy, but the whole place stank of smoke, from regular cigarettes and also the illegal kind. When we asked why the room was not cleaned they said the cleaner didn't come in - no offer of a refund; not even an apology. It’s no surprise that their other place, the Grand Hotel, gets bad reviews. The owners plan to do more building, with a possible high rise that would ruin the waterfront. I can't believe they would pass a health and safety inspection. They talk about renovating rooms to "upgrade the decor." It's sanitation, business practices, and attitudes that need upgrading.

For the last two years, I've spent a week with a group of divers in Nanaimo. The Moby Dick is the only place for us. The rooms are very large - lots of place for the gear. We can even put on all the gear and just walk to the boat.
The decor is a little dated, but think of it as nostalgic. Another bonus: the walls between the rooms are brick. There's no risk of hearing a loud TV next door. The full kitchens are great too for a quick lunch between dives.

The shipyard is located literally in 10 meters from the hotel. It produces strong industrial noise from 7am to about 10pm. Very disturbing. It is impossible to get any rest in the hotel during the day.

Other than that, the hotel is OK. Rooms are big and clean enough.

Overlooks marina and channel room is OK but dated. Shower curtain stunk but staff said smelled fine (not changed). No welcome on check-in not that we expect red carpet but not even a HI, check out was the same, the phone was more important, just leave key already on card. Stayed in Buccaneer down street for next 5 nights, highly recommended.

This lodge is located right next to the sea and offers good service!
On top of that, the rate for this lodge is very reasonable and also provides other service included in the rate (such as outdoor barbeque). You can also choose kayakking and fishing optionally.
If you are looking for a good price for huge rooms with other activities to spend good time with your family or friends, this is THE PLACE!!! CHECK IT OUT!!!
