Description: We took over the business at The Black Bear Pub last February, and since then the pub has undergone a few minor surgeries, and changes to the menu. In the nearing future we plan to change a few more minor things and hopefully you guys can come along with us for the ride... Gladys and her team at The Black Bear Pub are happy to be serving Nanaimo with some great food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Black Bear Pub has new ownership - great food, friendly & fun atmosphere - and yes, meat draws (almost every Saturday)! Every other Friday they have live bands come and play at the pub. Come on down for lunch, dinner, or a few drinks with friends.

This is your average local pub. The food is good, the service is good. It is a little out of your way but you are close to a lake, though not many seats allow you to see it. It is clean and reasonable

Tried the Black Bear on a Saturday night and was impressed. Pseudo British pub which doesn't quite hit the mark but some nice features. Lighting is a bit harsh but pub is very clean and the staff were all very friendly. Good location with lake view. I thought the food was a step above typical pub fare and we were both happy with our choices. A decent selection of beers made it a very good night.

Always interesting folk at the Bear, the regulars and the newbys. Servers always friendly and after you have been there once or twice they know your name and beverage of choice. Daily lunch and dinner specials always changing and delicious and well priced. Over all a very enjoyable experience. You are in luck if you get to meet John and Linda the proprietors.

We went to the Black Bear for Sunday brunch, they only did one breakfast item, English mixed grill. Well, for $9 it actually turned out okay, a big portion, the sausages were totally cooked and the mushrooms and potatoes were good. Service here is usually okay. A fantastic location with average service and food. Could be better, but generally a nice place to meet friends.

I have to start by saying, I hate paying for pool in a pub, I find if you're going in to spend money on food and drinks you might as well get some free pool while you're at it, but that's how it went at the Black Bear pub. We paid for a few games of pool and had their nachos and split a wrap.

The food was generously portioned and my cesar was average, my mango margarita was very tasty, but the view was the real highlight, and I can tell some people have made this their regular neighbourhood pub for a reason. (The staff are very friendly and attentive)

Standard pub fare, and standard drinks at good solid standard prices with good service.

And the fact their bathrooms were spotless when I went, more then made up for having to pay for pool (I love clean bathrooms). I'll be back sometime in the future to try out the rest of their menu.
