“very authentic olde english”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

This is one of the most authentic english pubs I have visited in Canada. The food is very authentic, but dont expect fries (there is no deep frier). Great selection of beers, dry ciders and in the summer the garden is fabulous - lots of tables and umbrellas and comfy chairs - and in the winter a huge fire place.

“What 'British Pub' should be, but usually isn't”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

From 1860 to 1980 Vancouver Island was one of the favourite destinations in the world for British emigrants. As a result, there are dozens of establishments that style themselves 'Olde English pub'. Most are nowhere near. This is. Various beers on tap, including a good selection of cottage beers. Fair wine selection, excellent food, especially the steak and kidney pie. Good servers (note you order at the bar) and an excellent outdoor area in nice weather. Not cheap, but considering the ambiance, well worth it.

I've been to this pub a few times. The atmosphere is what really makes a difference. It is well worth the drive to this English style pub. Pass by the pond and under the beautiful trellis into this delightful place. Food is good and servers friendly

“A hidden little gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

We had alittle trouble finding the place but it was well worth it when we did find it! Beautiful setting, lovely garden. I want to go here in the summer to really enjoy the surroundings. But when the weather is not as nice like when we went for lunch you can enjoy the fireplaces ( real wood burning ones) it's cozy inside and the food is good. 4 of us had a variety of dishes and no one had any complaints. The beef dip is very generous, you won't be hungry afterwords. I just have alittle thing that bugs me--- I hate things served with a ice cream scoop -- like potatoe salad. It screams high school cafeteria. I know, rather a silly thing!!!! So enjoy the drive here and enjoy a nice, cozy pub with good food.

“Favourite pub on the island!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

We were staying in Victoria and made the drive specifically to go to this pub! Beautiful setting, next best thing to being at a pub in the UK! Had the stilton ploughman's for lunch, delicious. Went well with my smithwicks pint. I believe some people rate the service as poor as they don't realize that you have to go up and get your pints, like in the UK. A must for anyone who is visiting the island (British decent or not!)
