Pipers is best visited at low tide in the summer. The wind nearly blows a hiker over in the winter, but the summer sees great hiking on the spit of land overlooking the Shack Islands and wonderful photographic opportunities. The lagoon is a bit muddy for kids to wade in, but at the ebb tide, it's fun to take a tube and be sucked out of the lagoon opening as the tide rushes in then out.

This park might be a little difficult to find as you wind your way through the residential area to get to the parking lot. Once there, you have a lot of possibilities... beach, island, and water access on both sides of the causeway. There is also a restroom (washroom in BC-speak) and picnic tables, but no dock. Supposed to be good swimming, but we didn't go in. (Brrrrr) When we were there, people were collecting seaweed. "Delicious," they said. Hmmmmmm. Worth a visit here for the walk to the island and the views across the Strait of Georgia. Also check out the nearby Neck Point Park, less than a mile north.

This is some of the West Coast at its finest. The views are wonderful and just a short hike out on the spit you can see so much and enjoy the sea air. Spots for picnics if you want and a section of water that you could swim if you wanted. Hard to explain but we always make a point of stopping here when we are going to the ferry in Nanaimo.

I have been here a few times on holiday and it is a great walk!
Especially if you have dogs, our dogs loved the walk and met other dogs on the trail! Very good if you fancy a stroll along a trail near the ocean.
