While a nice place to hoist a pricey pint, the food options are very limited, heavy, bland and very expensive for what they serve. I realize they are trying to be authentic, but surely that can be done while still making good food.

This place could easily be the best pub in Nanaimo, if only it would provide a modern pub menu. Having watched how busy this place was when it opened and how busy it is now it certainly looks like Nanaimo is voting with it's feet.

Nice looking Irish restaurant, and a long list of beer on tap that will keep the light in the eye of Mother Machree. The staff are 'pretty knowledgeable' about the beer - but they are young and mostly just old enough to hoist a pint themselves. $12.95 for a burger or bowl of chili - pretty average. Irish stew at $19.95? You're Irish not Scottish. That's not a $20 meal, folks. Had the steak and guiness pie, and while it was tasty, it was not a thick gravy, and was hot, but not piping. Hours later, I felt the aftermath of a dinner that was seemingly premade and microwaved. But I'll give them another chance. Love the atmosphere, the hostess ( a mature lady with a Brit accent ) was a charmer, and the server did check in often with us at the table.

I know these guys are trying to be an authentic Irish pub, but that doesn't mean the food has to be so terrible! The menu is very limited, not very publike at all, and comes with a forewarning that this is slow, good quality food that can take up to 20 minutes to cook. Not sure how a cold cut plate or bratwurst can take 20 minutes to cook, we went ahead and ordered anyways. The brat was luke warm when it arrived and was in a not so fresh pretzel bun with a small amount of simple mustard on it. Expensive food for what you get, flavorless boring food and slow service, try another pub!

We tried this restaurant pub within a week of its opening. We found the experience a little disappointing. The decor is OK but because of the orientation and the time of day, it was much too bright. The windows were bare, so there was no attempt to control the lighting. The service was average at best. There is plenty of beer choices, if you are a beer lover and want to pay inflated prices.

The food was quite bland, simple and, in our opinion, overpriced for what it was. There is some entertainment, most nights. We were finished dinner just as it was about to start, so we can't comment about its quality.

Overall, we found it underwhelming. Perhaps it will make the adjustments necessary to be a good addition to the area. It certainly has potential.

A fabulous renovation on the old railway station in downtown Nanaimo.
Many beers and ales on offer.
Slightly disorganised due to just having opened.
Food disappointing, overpriced $17 for a ploughmans that, although was large, featured basic deli meats and cheese and did not reflect the traditional Irish ploughmans from the UK.
Will give them another go once they have ironed out the teething problems.
