Interesting little restaurant located in the Old Town. Limited selection but what they have is well done and well presented. We had the gnocchi in a pesto sauce with chicken. Wonderful!
The service was forgetful and a bit irritating. We suspect the server was relatively new. The service however was very cheerful and welcoming.
A big selling point for us was the lack of loud, irrating background music.
We will be back soon

Nov 26/11- Tried this little restaurant based on TA reviews, and it was great.
It has a casual but cosy dining feel with only 6- 8 tables.
Making dinner reservations is wise, in order to ensure there is a table available.
Very, very reasonable prices, excellent quality, and nice presentation to the plates.
A rather limited menu, but has changing special entrees and desserts. Everything we ordered was delicious. The ice cream sandwiches are home made creations. Excellent coffee.
This is a good place to try.
It was a pleasurable dining experience and we give it a high recommendation. Service was excellent. It also offers take out.

I first visited this restuarant for lunch in the summer, and found the menu to be very limited and not very inspiring (i.e. mostly sandwiches). I also found the service to be very slow, considering that I was the only customer, and the plate was too small for what was essentially a very small portion of food apart from a large quantity of bread. Overall, I would say that the food was nothing special and was overpriced.

Then in September, to give them a second chance and let my wife also experience it, we arrived for lunch one day, to find the restaurant closed for a special event. While comtemplating where else to go for lunch, a person dressed in chef's clothes approached the front door, preparing to open it. Upon noticing us, she said in a rather cold and indifferent manner that they were closed, offering no apologies or expressing a wish for us to return another time. The overall impreession was that this person could not care less if we ever returned. On the basis of others' comments, I suspect that this person may also have been the owner.

First of all, I wish to thank you for your feedback; although it is a shame you did not share your criticisms with us at the time of your first visit, when we could have immediately ensured you left The Nest Bistro happy, we are glad you did so now so we can express our most sincere appologies for your disappointing experience.
Although when we first opened, our lunch menu was limited, we have since expanded it significantly to include wraps and specialty items. In the beginning, we did not even open for lunch, until our customers indicated that we should do this, and it turned out that we were wise in taking their advice--some of the items on the menu were directly asked for by our customers and turned out to be fast-favorites with the entire lunch crowd. This is why I regret not having had your feedback at an earlier time; our customers are the driving force behind what we do, and their feedback makes us better and better at giving them what they want, which in turn is the reason we have such a substantial number of repeat visitors.
As for the lunch portions not being what you feel is apporpriate, we are sorry you feel that way; however, you are the first to say this, and the number of take-out containers we use each week for our lunch crowd to carry out their unfinished meals speaks volumes. This being said, were any of our guests to indicate their meal was not sufficient, we do what it takes to ensure they leave happy. Rarely are the lunches finished without some being taken away.
Since opening, we have done an extraordinary amount of foot work to find better and more local ingredients, from the Nanoose Edibles organic nutritional and salad greens, to the Terra Breads foccacia for our sandwiches, which I am confident has taken our lunch products to another level from the time you came.
Lastly, I am sorry for whatever happened in September, but also not sure about it, or to whom you spoke or from where they approached. Early in September, we participated in the Harvest Festival to raise money for Nanaimo Foodshare. This was a charitable event in line with our philosophy and the only time we closed for lunch for a special event. On this day, we, the owners, and one employee left the restaurant early, together and remained together at the event until dinner service, when we all returned to the restaurant together.
On many occasions, we have opened early for dinner for a customer who approached the restaurant before our scheduled dinner service, and also, we have stayed open late for lunch when customers arrive after our lunch closing time. It is our pleasure to go above and beyond for every guest.
Again, your concerns are very important to us and we wish, should you give us the opportunity, to welcome you back to The Nest Bistro, so we can show you the experience that keeps our followers coming back time and again. We thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to share it with us and look forward to the opportunity to see you again.
