Owner description: Nanaimo Museum: Discover Nanaimo’s fascinating history in our new museum located in the VI Conference Centre. The main gallery offers a sense of what life was like for Nanaimo's earliest settlers and the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Our award winning replica coal mine is a special treat. The museum also manages the Bastion, an original Hudson's Bay Company post built in 1853. Don’t miss the gift shop!Museum Hours: 10am - 5pm Monday to SaturdaySummer Hours: Open Daily 10am - 5pm

After the royal BC museum this one seemed a bit thin.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on our Museum. We are disappointed that your visit with us wasn’t as full as it could have been. Hopefully we can address your concerns.

As a small local museum we are flattered to be compared to the Royal BC Museum as their operating budget is almost 60x (yes really!) our own. To be considered “a bit thin” in comparison is something we will take as a compliment!

We invite you to come see us again once our last permanent exhibit is installed in the gallery. Since we have moved into this new space we are constantly expanding our exhibits and re-evaluating our designs. In addition, our feature exhibit gallery has new content three to four times a year as we host exhibits from around the globe. One of the things we are very proud of here is our public and educational programming that is intended to bring our exhibits to life for our participants.

Hopefully you will be able to make it here again – perhaps during our busy summer months, and experience some of the added content we are offering. Also, please let us know what type of information or exhibits we could host in the future that would make for a better experience for you. We are always looking for input from our visitors to ensure we are a relevant and useful part of the community. Again, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, and we hope to see you again soon.

Full marks to Nanaimo for this gem of a museum. It's part of impressive new complex that demonstrates a pride in the past and a real commitment to the future of the town. The museum cleverly illustrates the development of the town over the years. Social, architectural, industrial and economic issues are objectively explored with engaging displays. Well worth a visit, and well done Nanaimo.

Small museum, but a great look at what Nanaimo was like "in the olden days". Excellent staff who really have a passion for sharing their local knowledge. Well worth the trip

This new modern facility is located in the new convention center in the heart of a revitalized downtown. It offers a look at local history and is exceptionally well done. Plan on spending a couple hours here, at least. There are some amazing old city photos around the museum. There also is a nice gift shop attached with some unique offerings. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a trendy "Serious Coffee" outlet adjoining with a couple of tables inside the gift shop with great coffee and light snacks. Admission is $2.00 or less. Excellent!

My first visit I thought - small town, small town museum. Was I ever wrong. This is an excellent museum relative to the size of the town, professional and definitely worth a stop if that's the kind of place you visit when in a town. I've been back a few times!
