“Great, comfortable stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Always on the lookout for local experiences (our first trip to Van Isle), we stayed with Marlene and Dave for 2 nights in July 2013. We chose a small, corner room - just big enough for two people. Fairly priced and immaculate - and the coffee pot was a lifesaver! Marlene gave me access to the washer/dryer, and Dave made suggestions for our continuing trip home. Great location (away from the crowd centered in downtown), and a nice walk to downtown on the trail. Thanks, Marlene and Dave!!

I booked the Buccaneer as we needed somewhere close to Departure Point for the ferry back to Horseshoe bay and as a "motel" was expecting something very basic - I couldn't have been more wrong as quite apart from the ideal location the room was superb , spacious and clean . The owners were very attentive , making sure everything was to our satisfaction and giving excellent advice on where to eat that night , would use as a base for this area in the future

Thank you very much PaulM16 for all your kind comments on your experience at The Buccaneer Inn. It always very satisfying to read that we have exceeded our guest’s expectations.

You make an excellent suggestion of using The Buccaneer Inn as a base to visit the surrounding regions. Lots to see in the mid-Vancouver Island region and not having to pack up and move about offers more time to see and do things.

Thank you very much for your patronage and we look forward to welcoming you back!

Your hosts,

Dave and Marlene

My friends and I stayed 7 nights at the Buccaneer while exploring the central part of Vancouver Island. We had great access to the Gulf Islands, the main E-W and N-S highways, as well as beautiful downtown Nanaimo. Our suite was wonderfully equipped with all the amenities of home. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Beds were great, it isn't noisy, it's really clean. Overall the Buccaneer was a great stay and we hope to return soon. Thanks Dave, Marlene, Christopher and Monique.

You are most welcome Gravelburger! It was very nice to have met you and we are very happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks for the kind comments on our rooms, amenities, beds (brand new Serta pillowtops!) and our cleanliness.

We also agree with you, and other TA reviewers, that Nanaimo is a in a great location as a base for daytrippers to visit many of the Island’s most iconic destinations.

We look forward to welcoming you and your friends back for your next Vancouver Island adventure

I needed a budget friendly accommodation for 3 nights and my parents had recommended the Buccaneer Inn. I'm not one for motel's but the price was right and the room description looked good so I booked it. Upon arrival I was greeted by a very friendly lady and showed my room. It was very clean and newly renovated. Although there wasn't air conditioning (the website was clear about this - in fact the website was really informative & accurate) there was a huge breezy window, a ceiling fan and a table fan. The room was cozy and quiet and had lots of amenities and the snacks and stocked fridge (minor fee) were very convenient. The Inn did have a minor maintenance issue while I was there but it was handled quickly and without any inconvenience to me. The Innkeeper kept me updated by text so I could go about my day. I ended up staying an extra day because of the convenient location and quiet room. It was so nice no hearing people in hallways or elevator noise and I will have to consider "motels" in the future. Keep up the good work ~ you're Inn is a great place!!

Room Tip: No elevator so if stairs are an issue request a ground floor room :)

I have stayed here several times while in Nanaimo. The rooms are always very clean and comfortable. The rooms have items such as books and games that add a really nice personal touch and come in handy when travelling with children. It is minutes away from the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The beds are incredibly comfortable and I have always enjoyed my stay.

We've been going to Nanaimo for a number of years for family reasons and never considered this motel but last year, my wife's cousin who works with Nanaimo Tourism recommended that we consider it. We are glad that we did. It was very clean and comfortable.
We stayed in #107, the Patio Suite, which is quite small but as we don't spend much time in our room, it was acceptable: compact but well laid out. Marlene did offer the option to move to a larger room (twice as large) for $20 extra but we stayed put for our 5 nights. One advantage was access to the patio (and BBQ) which it seems no-one else used.
It was our experience that it was quiet and we slept with our window open. The only time there was significant traffic was when the ferry from Vancouver docked - approx once every 2 hours and most of the traffic seems to go north and not past the motel. The main old highway thru Nanaimo is more than 4 blocks away and the N-S by-pass is even further away.
