I've just completed 3 nights at the Buccaneer, and I have to give it a strong recommend.

It's a little bit older place, but immaculately clean and very well kept up. The rooms are fully stocked kitchenette "suites" with separate living rooms and bedroom.

Nice linens and towels, clean carpets, comfortable beds, and a nice location.

It's a 100% smoke-free property, which I love.

Don't believe the negative poster - This non-smoking policy is VERY clearly stated EVERYWHERE, and they explain it in DETAIL to you when you check in, asking you to smoke across the street at the cool little waterfront park.

I'll definitely be back.

We stayed in a one bedroom kitchen suite for two nights and were very comfortable. Our family of two adults and two kids (10 and 12 years old) had plenty of space and we all liked the tasteful and contemporary decor. The location is pretty good, very bright and near the water, but it is on a busy road near a ferry terminal and it's on a bit of a blind corner, which can make pulling out of the parking lot a mild challenge. It's not too bad, though.

If you like walking, a few blocks away, across the road, is access to a seemingly endless walkway along the harbour. We followed this for about half an hour, passing a vast park with a playground on the way, until we reached some souvenir shops, coffee shops, and restaurants right on the water. We then went up some stairs and were in Nanaimo's modest downtown area.

We've stayed in Nanaimo numerous times before, at a couple of different hotels, but the Trip Advisor reviews convinced us to try the Buccaneer Inn this time. Glad we did, as this motel helped make this trip a standout and we'll definitely stay there next time.

This was my second stay at the Buccaneer Inn. The rooms are spotless and have very nice personal touches. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I agree with the Tripadvisor rating that this is the best value for your money. If you don't need a 5 star hotel with room service and all the fancy amenities, then stay here and same your money. I like it because it's a safe, clean room and it's in a good location, just a few minutes from downtown.

Room Tip: If you're not sure which room is best for your needs, email the owners. They are very helpful. I asked lots of questions and always got a friendly response that helped me decide.

Was there on quick business trip. I realize that place doesnt have A/C and it wasnt really necessary for the trip. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt great. Decent place to say.
