Living Forest Oceanside Campground & RV
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 6, 2012

We have been coming to Living Forest every summer since 2006 and our girls never want to go anywhere else! It is a beautiful site that gives amenities on par with many of the great private RV parks but has the lovely, treed forest feeling of the best provincial sites. Reservation policies are very accommodating and the staff are THE BEST! It's a perfect park to use as a 'home base' while exploring all the great activities the central island area has to offer. Can't wait to come back!!

Thank you MommaBear! We are so very proud of our staff, who are mostly students from Vancouver Island University's Tourism program. We grew up camping in our amazing Provincial Parks and did the best we could to make Living Forest feel that way with the addition of services and amenities, so we really love hearing that comparison. See you soon!

Have been camping here for years. Only 30 k away from our home, but we love to go there to get away. It is always fun and we like the quiet time after 11 p.m. The staff are always friendly and accomodating. Love the contests and the constant giveaways. The views are spectacular and it is always fascinating to watch the Eagles, hawks, ravens, crows and turkey vultures flying around! Can't wait for our next trip there!

We love hearing that we can be a close to home escape for folks who live nearby. Everyone camps for different reasons, but we share your enthusiasm for our feathered friends who grace our park. A few of the Trumpeter Swans have begun their annual arrival. Thank you for taking time to share your experiences.

We had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful Park in August. I called in the morning from out of town to see if they had a site available for the night.
The attendant on the phone was very friendly and polite and said that there was one dry site available.

The park is easy to find and centrally located to the City of Nanaimo BC.
After checking in, I couldn't help but notice how clean and well maintained this huge facility was. As well, after arriving to our assigned site, I had the feeling I was staying at one of BC's beautiful Provincial Parks.

Sites were spacious, with beautiful huge trees all around, clean and well groomed!

This is a full facility park, complete with tiered - ocean view - full hook up RV sites. There's plenty of walking areas that lead down to the beach area and away from the Park itself. Shopping is just a few minutes walk down the entrance roadway.

One other added bonus is a nice little Cafe located directly in the Park, complete with Patio and Ocean views! Enjoy coffee, homemade muffins, ice cream and more! As well, situated on the patio is free Wifi along with electrical plug-ins for your laptop.

I was also struck by the amazing outhouse restroom situated close to our site. Immaculately kept, complete with flush toilet and sink with running water and electric hand dryer. Another added bonus.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely Park, staff were all very friendly and pets are most welcome. We will be returning!

I have been to Living Forest many times over the past 20 odd years and the only time I have heard of people getting snarky with the staff is when they are in the wrong and their defensiveness is in direct relation to their bad behaviour. The no fires after 11:00 p.m. is a means of getting loud, abnoxious people to close it down and retire peacefully for the night and not disturb other people further. Reading between Boinkie and Steve B's letters I think that they had been imbibing too much and the staff felt that it was time to close the party down.

The staff at Living Forest are exeplary and are to be commended for their patience and forebearance when dealing with all manner of people who think that the park is for their enjoyment and only their enjoyment. People go to Living Forest to enjoy the park like setting, the beautiful views of the ocean, to take long walks throughout the park, swim in the estuary, to hear the birds and squirrels, and enjoy the outdoor air. If you came thinking you could party, be loud, and disrupt others camping experience then the staff will shut you down and to this I say HURRAH!

We were impressed with the quiet peace of the campground with good host and a good person checking to make sure rules were followed so everyone could have a good time without bothering anyone else. I appreciated the enforcement of the rules and peace. Everyone had a great time, as we were with our grandkids and children. There was something for everyone, from hiking down to the "beach" area and exploring when the tide went out to clean showers and a nice laundry for those dirty camp clothes. In all a great experience

The grounds are lovely, the view is so wonderful, but all was spoiled by a gold cart riding "power-tripper"...The campfires are to be out by 11pm, and although the rule is very strick, we must follow their wishes, which are strictly enforced by Guido. Alas, the rules do not apply to all, we found out as we were making our way back to our campsite, after being harshly reprimanded at our friends site by the golf cart riding bully...we saw there were sporadic campfires still a-blazing, and people outside having fun, but we were not allowed to enjoy ourselves...The next early evening, Guido came by shortly after 6 to remind us of quite time and fires out at 11pm, and looked at us with this passive/aggressive stare...keep in mind our group had people in their 40's to late 50's (not known to really bust a move)...So, he pre-ruined our evening, and made us feel paranoid, like we were bring spied on by our boss at work (you know the feeling). He came by many times in the evening and gave us the "stink-eye"...All in all, a bad experience, and we will NEVER go back to this hell-hole again...You feel like a fool when you pay money to be mistreated AND HARRASED like this.

We will never go back to Living Forest Campground after a devastating experience with security and management harassment the last time our family camped there. It started by security coming by our campsite at 11:00pm and telling us that it was quiet time now and to put our campfire out ( we have a propane fire ring ), which we thought was strange due to the fact that there were several other campers with fires still going. He said that they were allowed because they were resident campers, so we obliged and turned it off. Apparently he told the management that we were rude to him ( a LIE ), because after we got back home Living Forest management called us to "get some answers" as to what happened. My wife tried to explain what had happened, but it was clear that she (the manager) had her mind made up already. She was defensive and abrasive with my wife, she yelled at my wife, and she told us that security told her that somebody in our campsite had apologized to him for being rude already ( a LIE ). She also told us that every campfire has to be out at 11:00pm ( another LIE from security ) I think she needs some customer service skills training. We tried to talk to her and resolve the issue as we have camped there before many times and wanted to return.....but we will never camp there again. I will never recommend Living Forest Campground to anyone as the management does not care about their campers and I don't want anybody else to have the same bad experience we had.
