“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights during May and were extremely well looked after by Ania and Ingvar. They were helpful and informative when we were making the booking, despite us changing our minds twice about when we wanted to stay, and also when we were at the Pine and Picket. We were due to pick up a hire car the day after we arrived and Ingvar insisted on driving us to where we were picking it up and offered to stay while we collected and guide us back. The breakfasts were superb and we were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. We were treated to a glass of homemade quince wine one evening and the short musical interlude provided personally by Ingvar was an added bonus. The accommodation was spacious and clean and we appreciated the comfortable lounge and drink making facilities shared with up to 2 other guests and also the balcony with views over Departure Bay. I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent B&B.

My hubby & I travelled with my 7 months old gal to Nanaimo and we googled & 1st thing Pine & Picket popped out. The reviews by other travellers were great too and we decided to try it for ourselevs being 1st time in Canada.

Pine & Picket was not just good, it was 'FANTASTIC'! Not only did they extend their hospitality to receive us and make us feel comfortable during our 3 nights stay in 1 Madagascar room, they even provided baby stuff for our little bub. Our bub loved them to the max and so did we.

Every morning we looked forward to the yummy breakfast which were all freshly made with love from Ania. Ingvar was good with his recommendations, his knowledge and jokes too :)

Location was good and just walking distance upon our landing from the Sea Plane deport. Nanaimo was superb in terms of cleaniness, nice people, fresh seafood, nature trails, cool weather in May, etc.
A must go if you are heading to Canada & do pop over to Vancouver Island & stay with Pine & Picket.

We spent only one night here, but would have liked to stay longer. Unfortunately, we had to get back to Vancouver and couldn't stay longer.

Nanaimo is a beautiful town on the East coast of Vancouver Island and the Pine and Picket is the perfect place to stay while visiting there. Ingvar and Ania are friendly hosts with an interesting story to tell, and a wish to make their guest's stay as enjoyable as possible.

The rooms are neat and tidy, and comfortable. There is a common sitting room between the guest rooms with and coffee facilities.

The breakfast was delicious. Ania served eggs benedict for breakfast which was the most enjoyable breakfast we had on the trip.

All in all an enjoyable experience, and we would definitely stay there again.

Having read the reviews of previous guests my wife and I were confident that this was a quality B and B and we were looking forward to the breakfasts. We are from Sydney Australia and going out for breakfast is one of our favourite pastimes. We were however amazed by the quality and range of the food that Ania prepared. They were simply the 7 best breakfast's we have ever had. Our all time favourite was the waffles, but the eggs benedict were equally impressive. Ania and Ingvar were wonderful hosts and the room was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We are back home after 4 weeks travelling around Canada and our stay at the Pine and Picket was a highlight of our trip.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May. I read other reviews about this place on Trip advisor before making the booking. Let me say that all the talk about how excellent the breakfast is here is absolutely true. My wife remarked that the scones here are the best she has ever had. I am inclined to agree. Everything is scratch made and delicious. Ania also seems to delight in making people enjoy their stay as much as possible.

Ingvar was also a very welcoming host, giving us a tour of their splendid gardens which contain many varieties of herbs, vegetables and fruits that they use to prepare the meals you will enjoy while staying here.

Also, their dog Ginger is a big suck and loves being petted. But she will not bother you unless you invite her over and she is not present during breakfast. Although I would not have minded if she was.

The room we stayed in was also very comfortable and the bed was quite nice. The bathroom had everything in it we needed as well. All and all, one of the best B and Bs we have ever stayed at. Especially when you consider the price. And we almost always stay at B and Bs when we travel.

We stayed at the Pine and Picket for three nights in May 2013 in the Madagascar room. The inn is located on a quiet residential street within walking distance of the ferry from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay as well as the waterfront. We loved the location of the inn for exploring the area. During our stay we were able to visit Ladysmith, Chemainus, Cowichan Bay, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and of course Nanaimo. I consider Nanaimo a good central base for visiting the east coast of the Island.

Our hosts, Ania and Ingvar, were very warm and welcoming. Ingvar brought us a bottle of his homemade quince wine which we enjoyed very much and Ania shared some of her homemade port. Delicious. We enjoyed the view from the balcony and the shared sitting room was very cozy with coffee and tea available. We also enjoyed getting to know Ania and Ingvar. They are very lovely people.

Now to the best part. The breakfasts. Each day we were treated to the most amazing food we have ever tasted. Cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers on croissants. Freshly baked scones with homemade fig and quince jam. Fruit salad with berries and Devonshire cream. Eggs Benedict with the most delicious smoked salmon we have ever had. There was more, but this will give you a good idea of some of the treats we had each day. Ania is a trained French chef and the food reflects her training and love of cooking. We enjoyed the care she put into each dish and the presentation was lovely. We also enjoyed spending breakfast time with our hosts and fellow travelers. A great time was had by all.

We could not ask more from a B & B experience. The hosts were wonderful, the room was spotlessly clean and met all of our needs, the bed was comfy and the food was beyond compare. If you are visiting Vancouver Island and need a good central base for exploring the east coast you must try to get a room at the Pine and Picket. We would go back to the Island just to stay there!

Room Tip: Both rooms are lovely. The Provence room has a private balcony.

The Pine & Picket B&B has a beautiful garden and is a delightful home away from home with eclectically pleasing furnishings. Our spacious room was luxuriously appointed with a comfy bed, wonderful bathroom with shower complete with dressing gowns and slippers, and an interesting view of the harbour from our windows with a sliding and screened door that led to a balcony of our own complete with table and chairs. Ania and Ingvar are hosts who share their love of people and of life in general and are very welcoming and thoughtful to make sure their guests have a great time. We were treated to delicious Nanaimo bars with strawberries and chocolates for tea and a superb eggs benedict breakfast with so many tasty trimmings including yogurt, scones, fruit salad, juice, and coffee, all served with a colourful gourmet touch. We were foot passengers on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo and found the location only a short walk to the B&B and also it is perfectly positioned for exploring the waterfront along Newcastle Channel. Our holiday was so enjoyable that we are planning another stay at the Pine & Picket B&B again soon. Thank you, Ania and Ingvar.

Room Tip: Leave your car at home and travel lightly as this B&B is well situated for an exploring, interes...
