“Great Room, Great Hosts”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

An unfortunate hotel experience in Victoria led us to the Pine & Picket a day earlier than we had planned and we are so glad. Ingvar & Ania are great hosts, very welcoming, with great stories of their own but interested in their guests' stories as well. The rooms are cozy, clean and very nicely decorated. Two upstairs balconies offer wonderful views, and the upstairs sitting room is welcoming with coffee & tea available at all times. Breakfasts are unforgettable for the food, attention to detail and conversation. We had 3 nights there and could have stayed longer. We had a wonderful time and feel we made good friends in Ania and Ingvar. Hopefully we will return!

I'm not usually given towards using superlatives, but in all honesty, this is a five-star B&B. Ania is a professionally trained gourmet cook, and the breakfasts truly knocked our socks off. We stayed two nights, and couldn't believe what awaited us in the dining room each morning. No exaggeration .... you will not find a better breakfast anywhere!

Ania and Ingvar are the most hospitable B&B hosts, and we've stayed in quite a few B&Bs over the years. They are naturally very friendly and welcoming, and you are immediately made to feel at home in their comfortable home. We used the front bedroom, and it was thought out down to every detail (not to mention clean as a whistle). The linens are updated, and the bed is fresh and very comfortable. The sitting room (which the only two rooms share) is well stocked with tea, coffee, etc. for getting going in the morning or the nice relaxing cup of tea before going to bed.

I can't imagine better service/friendliness/cleanliness at a 5 star resort. Ingvar and Ania were so helpful and accomodating and the breakfast was truly divine. What an amazing welcome home to Canada for me and welcome to Canada to my husband.
Thank You!!

We visited with adult children and the set-up with lounge area in between rooms was perfect: affording us with privacy and visiting opportunities as we liked. The breakfasts are incredible. Healthy, never the same thing twice, dietary interests considered, so beautiful we didn't want to nibble. But when we started we were in a state of contented bliss until supper! The.hosts are kind and we left feeling like over-indulged and very purry kittens.

Whatever it is, you will find it at the Pine & Picket B&B in Nanaimo. The location is perfect, close to transportation, but you'd never know as it is so peaceful, looking out over the water. Ania and Ingvar are perfect hosts, friendly and helpful. Accommodation is super comfortable and we loved relaxing in the lounge area before heading out to eat at Ania's recommendation, a great local Irish pub. Breakfast was yummy and my coffee-loving hubby was very impressed with the brand Ania served. We can't wait to return and we'd recommend the Pine & Picket to anyone who is looking for a great experience with special people. Thank you Ania and Ingvar, see you soon!

My First Choice!

Without a doubt, the Pine and Picket is always my first choice when staying in Nanaimo – it is simply the best there is . . . if you can get in!

Hosts Ania and Ingvar are warm and welcoming. Their beautiful, comfortable home is located in a convenient, quiet and safe neighbourhood – blocks from the ferry and float plane terminal, walking distance to downtown via the seawall, and close to all shops and services you could possibly need.

Ania is a top notch chef – her sumptuous breakfasts are beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. My all-time favourite is her smoked salmon eggs benedict – so good! Breakfasts often include fresh berries with yogurt and home-made scones. No need to stop for lunch!

Superb hospitality, incredible comfort, and a culinary dream . . . I will continue to come back to the Pine and Pickett again and again. Thank you so much!

There are few experiences that can equal staying with these friendly folk, Ania and Ingvar.
Ania's breakfasts are superb. The taste and the presentation were incredible. Their home is immaculately clean. There are two rooms upstairs with a common area in between. The location is handy to the Horseshoe Bay ferry. The view is great. The beds and linens are top of the line. We are looking for another excuse to go back.

Room Tip: Both rooms are great. The Madagascar room is, perhaps the bigger of the two but the Provence room ha...
