On a hot July afternoon, after a 2 hour canyon hike, our group of four decided to enjoy some refreshments and a stroll through the lavendar gardens. We were pleasantly surprised to find that while there were many varieties of lavendar growing, many of flowers were also in the gardens.
After paying a nominal fee, which can be reimbursed towards purchases from the gift shop, we took a walk through the very fragrant blossoms just beginning to be harvested. There were many bees buzzing among the flowers but none came near us, even when we stood between the lavendar mounds to take pictures. We spoke with one friendly staff member working in the gardens who seemed to take delight in demonstrating then instructing us on how to use the scythe when cutting the flower stalks.
Eventually the sun got to us so we returned to the small and shaded outdoor cafe, overlooking the gardens, to enjoy lavendar treats - ice tea, scones and shortcake. A very lovely way to spend an afternoon.
