If one is nostalgic for a home-cooked plate or bowl of comfort Asian food, then a whistle stop at Pho Soc Trang is a must.

A family-owned and run business (with a little help from some friends) will welcome you into their Vietnamese "kitchen". Jen (younger sister) runs front of house, Tam (a teacher by profession) is the eldest, and serves when available, Mom and Dad are in the kitchen prepping and cooking up home-style delights. Cyndy is the "honorary" third daughter, and with help from Christina and Katie, deliver with a smile. Trevor is the cheery dishwasher.

All the front of house staff make an effort to remember their regulars, so it's wonderful to be greeted either on sight, or when seated and ready to order.

What to try? One cannot go wrong with the lemongrass tofu appetizer (delicious triangles of tofu smothered in lemongrass sauce); my faves are the #36, Lemongrass pho w/ meat & vegetables, and #50 Stir-fried tofu & vegetables w/ rice noodles.

For carnivores, I've enjoyed #82, the Grilled Pork Chop w/ egg on rice, and #91, House Special Curry Chicken w/ vegetables on rice. Truly, one cannot choose poorly.

As for the beverages, my husband and I always order the Artichoke Tea (unusal, but satisfying flavour), and for a treat will order one of the blended, handmade mikshakes. I love the Vietnamese Coffee milkshake.

If you're in Kelowna, and want to rest your weary body and feed your hungry soul, Pho is the place to go where everyone knows your name. (But make sure you visit a few times to give the staff an opportunity to learn your name!)

My girlfriend and I come here all the time. This is our favourite Vietnamese restaurant. Service is extremely nice and food is always great. Prices are very good here.

Every dish we ordered was perfect. The Vietnamese rolls were great the sauce could be a bit more peanutty. The fried shrimp had a fresh batter like tempura. The soups were tasty. The noodle dishes just perfect.
All very fresh and fast.
The fried Oreos came as a surprise, and again it was more a tempura Oreo.

My wife and I gave this restaurant a try last week. We both ordered a vermicelli bowl. The meals were okay for sure but we both agreed not near as good as ones we have had at Saigon Restaurant in Kelowna. The worst part about the evening was this one server who overwhelmed the room with her laughter and yelling back and forth to other staff and guests. It was quite annoying. Part of the problem is the hard floor which does not help with the acoustics but really that server needs to tone it down. We would not go back.
