“My Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2007

I have just retruned from my second stay with the Hotel
Eldorado , Kelowna, B.C.

I was there for three weeks in March and I returned for the
Easter Weekend in April/07.

The Hotel is Great! Mixed with history , backdating to 1912 and
modernization. The hardwood and corkscrew floors , the area rugs, and antique furniture on display throughout the hotel, truly
gives you the down to earth welcome that hasn't changed over
time.

You have the modernization of having all the amenities of today
living. The T.V., DVD, the swimming pool, the spa, the workout
area, the beautiful boardwalk along the lake and the view which just keeps on going. The marina , the boats, along with the waterfoul, the ducks, the swans, and the Canadian Geese.

The service is friendly, prompt, and helpful. Anytime you could
dial the "0" on your phone and your question or whatever request
would be answered or fulfilled with a quick response.

The dining is a treat. The Sunday Brunch is out of this world.
There is no way you can even remember everything you saw
not alone taste a quarter of what you saw. This includes going
back a second.

The rooms themselves are big and roomy, with a king size bed
and a pull out couch , for an ultimalte sleep. The room also has
hudge sliding doors that open unto a belcony that lets in lots of that great fresh air.

A true experience in itself.

I would highly recommend this Hotel. The hotel is situated right on the lake with a great boardwalk, lounge and restaurant. We stayed in the new section and we had the best sleep of our trip there in that giant Kingsize bed. We never heard another sound coming from the other rooms and the parking lot was full as this was Easter weekend. The people working there are just genuinely nice people. Can't wait to go back someday.

The Hotel ElDorado has two parts – the old section and the new section. If you’re on vacation, you might be happy with the old section. I was traveling on business and was not at all happy with my room or the hotel experience! I believe I was given one of the cheapest rooms as I was on a government rate. The room was tiny. It had no desk. I was left to try to work using only the vanity as a makeshift desk. The hotel refused to move me (even though it was mid week and judging by the small number of cars in the parking lot, space wasn’t an issue). There was no elevator and no bell staff. I had to haul my luggage up the stairs! My room was directly over the lounge which played very loud music – no sleep for me! It was a horrible experience. One of my colleagues opted to pay for her room out of her own pocket and for $30 more a night, had a room in the new section which she thought was very nice. If you’re going on business, insist on the new section or stay away! The hotel next door (Manteo) also has a government rate and is fabulous in every way.

This hotel is beautifully situated on Okanagan Lake with everything at your fingertips. The only problem is that unless you're prepared to party every night until 1:30 am, I suggest you avoid this hotel. It is absolutely the noisiest hotel I have ever experienced! We stayed in the old wing, as it has far more character and huge, covered balconies overlooking the marina...(which seemed wonderfully romantic and relaxing at the time we booked.) But it is SOOOO hideously noisy due to the restaurant, pub and boardwalk. We literally were forced to buy earplugs in order to get any sleep. Also, the housekeeping is hit & miss. Our used wineglasses sat on a table for our entire stay, toiletries/linens weren't replaced, i.e.: soap, kleenex, facecloths, etc... Room service would bring food and forget utensils. When we ordered coffee, instead of receiving a caraffe (as in every other hotel) we received exactly 2 cups of coffee covered in cellophane...hmmm...did they run out of caraffes due to a full house? The room was "bare-bones" ...not even a coffee station (although they did have an ironing board/ iron and a hairdryer (although very low powered, so you might want to bring your own.) We also found the dining room and bar service extremely inconsistent and non-attentive. Our advice? Visit this hotel off-season.

The rooms in the Eldorado's new wing are simply magnificent. Plenty of space (contemporary but comfortable), a fantastic shower with eight, count them eight, showerheads - one of which is a rainfall overhead, deep jacuzzi tub on an elevated level surrounded by windows overlooking the lake and a huge 42-inch Sony LCD TV over a cozy electric fireplace.

These rooms have every bit of comfort sought on a weekend getaway. I'd highly recommend this for couples. Be prepared for a steeper price - and rightfully so.

One caveat: location. Don't book here expecting to be steps from downtown Kelowna or a slew of restaurant options. A car is a must.

The Eldorado has a new wing that is very spiffy. Nice, top-notch rooms. Staff is efficient and helpful. The dining on the boardwalk looks fun, if you can get a table. But the room prices now rival the fancy Grand Hotel, and at $250-plus in the summer, it's frankly not that good. There's the tiniest of pool, a tiny beach nearby, and not many other offerings of things to do but stroll on the marina.
