Holiday Inn Express Kelowna

I don't understand all the great reviews for this place. It's really just your average, ho-hum, run-of-the-mill stripmall hotel. On a highway. Surrounded by chain restaurants, Walmarts and Home Depots. Kelowna? You might as well be in Kansas City or Kalamazoo. Very much like every other Holiday Inn Express I've ever been at. I would not have stayed here if I was doing more than a sleep-and-dash. For a better Kelowna experience try Manteo right on the lake.

This hotel is on a busy highway that goes right through town. The waterfront is about 5kms away. There's various restaurants nearby. Especially enjoyed Cactus Club across the street. (Stay away from Ricky's in the hotel parking lot: slow service, tired decor, and just adequate food).

I was on the top (4th floor) facing the hiway. View of mountains is spectacular - and a window opened. Great placement of furniture. Enjoyed having a fridge to store a few things (there's also a microwave).

Pillowtop queen bed was comfy; the pillow slips label the pillows hard and soft. No sofabed or big upholstered chair, but there are a few chairs (besides the office chair for the desk).

The fitness room, with a door from the pool, has 2 treadmills and one eliptical. There's a tv, an air conditioner, towels, spray to wipe down equipment in there.. You must get the key from the front desk - which also includes the magnet for allowing treadmills to work. Yes, that cuts down on children playing in there. Pool, fitness, and hot tub are open till 11pm.

The 3rd floor has a sun deck with chaise lounges. Great view, but it's not an "inviting" space. No access key required.

Replacement of 4th floor hallway wallpaper was almost complete; they're working down.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Cookies and coffee are available next to the front desk in the evenings.

You can access internet and print for free; there's one computer in the 'business centre". I noticed there's also the option to plug in a laptop. I used the free cabled HSIA in my room - no problems.

As usual, the Hol Inn Express breakfast is extensive. It has everything but waffles. I especially appreciated the local cherries. Great stay; good value for the money.

This is one of the better HIEX I've ever stayed inn. Nice comfy rooms, central location next to many eating choices, and a whole breakfast bar with rolls, bagels, the usual. I would recommend this hotel for people stopping on their way to Big White Ski Resort.

Our one night stay here was a 'Rewards Stay' with Intercontinental's Priority points and was a good use of 10,000 points.

The room had 2 queen beds and was on the ground floor. In fact, some of it was below ground level and the window was only just above ground, but that was okay although those overly concerned with privacy might not appreciate it. The beds were comfortable and had attractive white bedding. There was a microwave and fridge in addition to the coffee maker. We made use of the free internet access. The breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express and more than adequate.

The indoor pool was 5ft at the deep end and a comfortable temperature. The hot tub was another good experience.

The hotel is on one of the main roads through Kelowna and there is a Wal-Mart nearby. We had a good evening meal at a chain called White Spot which we thought very good and it was only about a mile or so from the hotel along the same road.

This hotel is a few minutes drive outside the center of Kelowna. Did not notice a bus-service or any other means of transportation to the center. However, this is only a minor inconvenience if you drive a car yourself and there is ample parking space outside the hotel.

This Holiday Inn is reasonably priced, quiet, air-conditioned, clean and modern. Our children had a great time in the pool which again was clean and well looked after. The breakfast was adequate, Would be very happy to stay here again.

Last month I was visiting a friend who had recently moved to Kelowna. As we pulled into town, we realized we had foolishly forgotten our friend's contact info---no phone, no address, nothing. No problem, we thought, we can just email them from our hotel. Unfortunately, we had booked somewhere else(Hi-express Kelowna was where we actually wanted, great location, but had been full) ...and their only computer was broken. The front desk was also most unhelpful about directing us to public internet service anywhere. After trying 2 other hotels (and 3 closed public access internet places), we were getting desparate!

We pulled into the Hi-x and went inside where we could see a lovely business center behind a locked glass door. I pulled the short straw and went up to the desk to throw myself at their mercy, explaining we were not guests but really needed internet access for 2 minutes. The front desk lady (I neglected to get her name) took pity on us and handed over the keys. We were in contact with our friend in under 60 seconds, HURRAY!

Long story short, their business center was great and fully equipped, and their staff friendlier and more helpful than the 3 other "big guys" we had tried. Thanks Hi-ex!!!
