While in Kelowna last week we decided to have dinner at Ricardo's, one of our real favorite restaurants in Kelowna as we have being going there for +6 years. They had a great Easter Menu and the food was excellent as usual and it was great to see the pork tenderloin back on the menu. The only complaint/concern was that the staff need a little more knowledge on the wine list and the characteristics of the wine particularly the wine specials. The staff member was very good but had very limited knowledge of the wine on the boards. Look forward to more visits in the summer.

Ricardo's has true Mediterranean atmosphere and the food is heavenly. Sitting outdoors in their garden area in the summer makes you feel you are somewhere in the Mediterranean. The food is always fresh and prepared to perfection. The service is friendly and it's a fun place to gather with your friends. Live music adds to the atmosphere.

Loved our experience at Ricardo's, everything was to perfection. The waitresses were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, all attention given but not to the point of being intrusive. The food was to die for, the Pernod Prawns a taste sensation! Ricardo and Sue were fabulous hosts, as was their most gorgeous granddaughter Bo! There was a trio playing the night we went. a fantastic addition to the atmosphere.
Highly recommend this restaurant - great food, great service, great value.

First time there, was 4+ years ago with a large group for a Christmas time party. Returned 3 more times over 2 years and each time it just got a little worse. The food went down hill, the service progressively slid - feeling like we were inconveniencing them and the decor was dusty and tired.

We had a lovely meal but it turned to disappointment the next day when I rang to recover my hand knitted shawl. Our server Liz rang me back and told me we hadn't left a tip so I am not getting it back. Thinking we had a left her a nice $40 tip when we paid on our card left us gobsmacked. We were staying at the resort next door and they rang her and wanted to speak to the general manager. She told them SHE WAS the general manager. For Ricardo's sake I hope not. Very poor after service. From a travelling Aussie

In 2013 restaurants have to now defend themselves when a negative incident occurs and the customer gets to tell their version of what happened. Then of course we must respond so as not to let the future reading public believe some of the inaccuracies that have been posted.

Here are the facts.

The customers dined. The customers enjoyed. The customers spent $384. The customers (Australians) inquired about the appropriate gratuity. The customers then confusing us all left no gratuity. The customers called next day inquiring about a sweater left behind. The restaurant replies it does not have the said sweater. The manager/ server Liz was not very cordial with the said customer. The customer calls resort office to complain. The resort office calls Liz to complain about a sweater apparently being held ransom.

In a nutshell, that's exactly what happened. So let's review.

First and foremost, we do not have the sweater.

Secondly, the customer being very pleased with everything inquired about our gratuity policies in Canada. Very considerate we thought as our “down under” cousins have different policies regarding tips.

Whether our servers get tipped or not, they still have an obligation to payout for all the assistance they receive during the course of their shift from the kitchen, the bar and her assistants as well. Thus Liz was actually “out of pocket” in this particular scenario. This policy is standard practice in most dining rooms across North America. Personally I would recommend International travellers to know these policies while abroad. I certainly do when I travel as to not find myself in situations such as this in turn leading to positive experiences on a regular basis.

Thirdly, we at Ricardo’s consider ourselves very fortunate to have a long-standing employee such as Liz representing us. In frustration she may have said something inappropriate, which even she regrets, but any employer anywhere would give an arm to have someone like her on their team.
