I'm profoundly puzzled by the recent negative review of Quilas. We were at Quilas, sitting on that very patio for two evenings right perhaps at the very same time as the writer and had the exact opposite experience and came to completely different opinions. To each their own, I guess. We stumbled on Quilas just as they were closing one evening and they stayed open for us. The owner served us a brilliant guacamole, creating it right at our table. It was at least as good as the best guacamole I've had in Mexico, and we were able to see for ourselves the freshness and quality of ingredients. Hearing that we were disappointed not to be able to purchase fresh apricots that day, she brought out a handful of Okanagan apricots as a gift. We'd wanted to try the papusas that evening, but the cook had already gone home, so we were back the following night for a full meal of guacamole again, plus papusas (an El Salvador dish that's hard to get in Canada; if you haven't tried it, you should!), and mojito mocktails. The food was great, the service personable and helpful, the prices reasonable considering this is Mexican-style food prepared by people making Canadian wages. We'd go back. Lots.
