Came across this place whilst walking through Riverside Park and along the South Thompson River.
A couple of ladies came from the office to show us over the train and briefly in the workshop. Interesting history told about the locomotive. For train enthusiasts worth a visit. The loco was being prepared for Canada day trip.

What is unique about this ride is that 2141, the locomotive, is the only one of its kind left and it has been restored over ten years from being a park ornament. Not many steam trips travel over mainlines still in use by passenger and long freight trains, but this one does. You will hear the story of the local first nations and the old days of masked robbers and dancing girls.

Staff and volunteers were cheerful and engine and coaches were in new, or better than new condition. Temperature control in the summer was as bad as that recorded in the winter, and the space both for the train robber horseman and the dance troupe was very restricted. The acoustics were poor and a proper colour guide to route and stock, as on many other trips, would be an asset. Though I am a train fan, I only came across this in local publicity .

If you are here, say on a Rocky Mountaineer overnight or travelling through, you should definitely do this trip; if you are travelling on a special journey, you should go to Colorado or to Stetler instead, where there is more ride and more programme. That said: hats off to this community for doing this- long may it continue.

Much to our disappointment, the train was not running while we were there, but we got a sneak peek. The 2141 is a grand old steam train with an interesting history. The train runs July and August. The October Ghost train rides and Trick or Treat Train sound fun. They also have a Spirit of Christmas in December.

We went on the Christmas train with our two kids and unfortunately it was on a very cold night. We had to wait even longer outside as a freight train (which was running late) had priority over our train. Not their fault but it still sucked for us. The train is beautiful and impressive....until you get inside. The inside is decorated but its not as nice as the outside. It was very cold inside so make sure to dress warm. The actors do their best to entertain the passengers but they don't have much to work with. It was an interesting experience but I'm not sure it was worth the money... Overall an ok things to do but it won't become a tradition in our family, once was enough....

Rode the Christmas train. The ride lasted about an hour, it was nice, the staff were friendly. Be prepared to stand out in the cold for 45 minutes before you get inside. They offered a small indoor area and outdoor heaters where you could warm up. The train is beautiful on the outside. It was fun but I'd rather ride this train during the day. Not an affordable family outing but I understand that train upkeep is expensive! They also had characters on the train for the kids to visit with like frosty, Rudolph, Santa etc. You also received a cookie and a hot chocolate.
