It looks like staying in non-chain hotels is the way to go. I was happily surprised with the accommodations and trendy and up-to-date rooms. Staff was an absolute pleasure to deal with and the breakfast that was included was plentiful. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!!! Also very quiet at night.

Arrived late in the day off the RM with not much energy, just time to have dinner, get some sleep, and then off early the next morning.
People commented before the trip that there was nothing in Kamloops, but it did look an interesting enough place to have a look around for half a day. We were there Sat night and Sunday morning so all the shops were closed. There is a Antique shop on the same street as the Hotel which had Train souvenirs, where we might have purchased something for Train enthusiasts friends back home if it had of been open.

The Hotel was excellent, the food in the Pizza Restaurant next door was awesome, one of the best pizzas we had in Canada. We were given our keys when boarding the shuttle bus at the train station, which was a good system, quickly in to the room for a shower to freshen up.

Room Tip: Its a Railway town, doesn't matter which side you stay, at the train horns will get you at night

Arrived very late and only stayed 1 night whilst driving through the Rockies. Front desk was super and got us checking in and into our room in a matter of minutes. Room was lovely, clean and modern and the AC was nice and cold which was welcomed break from the heat outside.
Breakfast was the major downfall of this place. It was so disorganised with 2 staff running around frantically trying to keep up. No seats or tables available so ended up eating in a separate room across the hall. Hot option were not that tasty so opted for the muffins and cereal.

We stayed here overnight as part of our Rocky Mountaineer trip. It was described in our itinerary as a moderate category hotel and to be honest we weren't expecting great things but in some respects it turned out to be one of the best hotels on the tour. It is very centrally located but we experienced no noise disturbance at all despite the fact that the Noble Pig pub is next door. Wi fi was free and better than a lot of the 4 star places where we stayed. We were given 4 bottles of complimentary water, chocolates, ample tea, coffee and fresh milk. Compare this to other places in Canada where we were charged 3 dollars 50 for water and had to go down to reception to request more coffee if you used the one bag you were allocated. We were also impressed with the toiletries - dispensers of shower gel and shampoo plus a large selection of little bottles. Bed linen was clean and crisp. The rooms may be a little dated but that didn't bother us at all. Kamloops is a great little town. We thoroughly enjoyed the free concert in the park.

Stayed here one night on route from Vancouver to Golden and then Banff. Good family run hotel on main street (Victoria St). Thought it would be noisier but it wasn't. Room had two Queen beds which made the space a bit tight. Bathroom was tight on space too but ok. Bed was very comfortable with crisp new looking sheets and good quality pillows. Pool was small but fine. Breakfast was good with real delph and cutlery. Hot items included savoury omelettes and plain omelettes. The dining area was spacious and pleasant. We had to pay 5 dollars for parking in an underground area...we thought that was "rubbing it in" as we say in Ireland! Not impressed even if the charge wasn't huge. However we enjoyed our stay and there were plenty of restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Choose a room to the rear.

After a day on the Rocky Mountaineer, this was the hotel we were assigned. Before we departed the train everyone in our car was given their hotel key and their room number. When we arrived at the hotel by motorcoach, the staff was there waiting in the lobby to welcome ALL of us and all we had to do is go to our room to rest and relax.

Room was clean and the beds comfortable.

After several hard days of driving we were just glad to reach Kamloops and chill out. We did ask our waitress at dinner that night what there was to see in Kamloops and she said not much, so we didn’t miss much by relaxing in our room upon arrival.

I did study the Kamloops map prior to arrival so we were able to locate the hotel quite easily. We were expecting to pay for parking as indicated by previous reviewers but found it to be free and undercover.

Our room contained a king size bed and had a wonderful outlook over the railway line. The bathroom was quite small and the door had to be shut before the shower could be accessed. Pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner and soap were a nice environmental addition. There were plenty of thick, good quality towels. The room contained an electric kettle which we’ve found to be quite rare in Canada but much appreciated.

Breakfast was included in our deal but it didn’t begin until 7am and we had to leave for Vancouver at 6am. The staff at Reception did offer to put us together a small travel breakfast package but we didn’t take them up on the offer.

The hotel is located downtown and is central to all shops and restaurants.

The Thompson Hotel was adequate for an overnight stay. We had a good night’s sleep, were able to eat well at a nearby restaurant and awoke refreshed for the next day’s journey. What more do you need?
