“Satisfactory stopover accommodation in Kamloops”
Reviewed July 20, 2010

We spent one night at Riverland Inn on an overnight stop on a Rocky Mountaineer train trip. We had a large room (more or less a suite with a separate bedroom) of very good standard (recently refurbished, I think), which was very clean and comfortable. The room had a balcony with a nice view over the river. The Riverland Inn is on the outskirts of Kamloops, some distance from the centre of the town with not much around it. This could be a disadvantage for some, but we walked into town to find a restaurant for dinner and walked back afterwards. This was a longish walk, but it suited us to get some excercise after a day sitting on the train. No complaints.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night in early July and for another night 9 days later. Don’t be put off when you drive up to the hotel because the rooms are not bad at all.
When we checked in it was very hot (37c) and the room was nice and cool with the AC running which was very thoughtful but a bit noisy while we were sleeping.
This hotel is situated next to the river so if you have a river side room the view is great (which we had both times).
The room is large with a comfortable Queen size bed, which was good to sleep on, a big flat screen TV with many channels, Wi-Fi is free and has good speed, a fridge, microwave, hot plate and some cooking utensils.
The bathroom has a nice tub with a shower in it but the vanity is in the kitchen outside the bathroom and makes up part of the kitchen workbench area but that was no problem.
When we stayed here the 2nd time we had a different room and it was a bit smaller with no microwave or hot plate. Otherwise it was similar to our other room but the AC was quieter when running (temp was 32c).
Breakfast was very basic in a small stuffy room with not enough seating.
I would stay here again.

Pictures are attached.

Happy travelling.

We stayed at the Riverland Inn, on our way to Vancouver coming from Edmonton. The Hotel is easy to access off Highway 5. The room we were in had a balcony with spectacular view of the river. There are also rooms available right on the river level. The room itself was quite large and clean with nice décor. The breakfast had variety of items to choose from including couple hot items. Overall we had great time at the Riverland Inn, will recommend to others.

We stayed here on our way to Vancouver. We were given a room on the ground floor that was more than big enough for us and included a separate bedroom as well as the double bed in the main room.

Let's start with the good:
- Large room
- Rate included breakfast; very unusual for North America
- Free internet access via a dedicated machine off reception
- Clean and comfortable, in fact really comfortable bed!

And now the not so good:
- No lifts as far as we were aware
- Socket hanging off the wall in our room
- Odd part of town just off the highway

It's a nice enough place for a short stay, but we really wouldn't want to spend very long there!

We stayed here on a roadtrip up to the Rockies and wanted to break up the drive. It is basically a motel and for 1 night it was fine. The room was clean and spacious and had a LCD TV rather surprisingly. Small balcony overlooking the river was also a pretty nice touch.

The location is not great, a ways out from most of Kamloops, but I didn't get the impression there were a lot of great locations in Kamloops. They also charged me twice (once through Expedia and once in the morning) but when I called they were pretty good about reversing the charges. Still, they should be on top of that sort of thing and it wouldn't have been picked up if I wasn't careful checking my bill.

We stopped here as we were on a 2 day Rocky Mountaineer train journey from Banff to Vancouver and they put you up in hotels in Kamloops for the middle night. There were a number of us from the train staying at this hotel. It is basically a motel.
Our room was a good size with 2 good beds. The bathroom was small with shower over the bath and a toilet but the wash hand basin was in the bedroom. Everything was very clean and it worked ie the iron, hair drier TV and fridge.
The hotel does not have a restaurant but there is an eaterie next door - about a 3 minute walk. This was AWFUL. It was so dark inside you could hardly read the menu and the food was grim. We were not paying as our evening meal was included in our train fare package but if we had been paying we would not have been at all happy. Fortunately we did not need to have breakfast there as this was provided on the train. We were somewhat relieved to hear that fellow passengers who had stayed elsewhere in Kamloops had a similar experience - the accommodation was fine but the eating arrangements were poor.

I usually stick to chains motels, but we went with the tripadvisor reviews. Rooms were clean and comfortable if not fancy. Bathroom a little dated but clean. Had a fridge and wireless internet. We sat out back on the nice patio furniture and enjoyed the views and the waterskiers as my kids played on the laptop using the motel wireless connection. The only negative was the 1960's pools. Breakfast was decent. We had a good nights sleep in comfortable beds. I would skip the restaurant next door.
