“What a way to get a town out of a depression!”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

When the Mill shut down, and the reason for the existence of this small town, they had to think of a way to survive. The Mayor at the time - Mayor, Graham Bruce - applied for a Provincial Community Initiative Grant which saved this small town and created the tourist destination it is.

They've done a great job of painting the walls with Murals coinciding with a great welcoming town where you can walk around, have coffee and take in the local artists.

“Chemainus”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

This was a gem of a find purely by accident and meeting a friendly lady at Goldstream provincial park. We set off and a leisurely 1 hour drive north towards Nainamo we found pretty little Chemainus. Spent 2 hours there wandering around and enjoying such a pretty little town. congrats on turning the town into a great destination.

“A pretty picture”

If you are in the Chemainus area do stop by and check out the Chemainus Murals. They are very well done. You can follow the footsteps around town to see most of them and will also pass interesting shops and restaurants as well.

“Always interesting, informative and fun.”

The murals show the history of the town and area, and the talent of the painters. New ones appear now and again so each time you visit there may be another to see and just following the yellow footprints is good exercise for the day.

“Getting the Picture”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

CHEMAINUS shows just what is possible for a town to achieve when its main employment dries up and the community threatens to just blow away.
Instead people put their heads together and came up with the idea of decorating bare walls with murals to try and attract visitors in.
They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams and the town is justifiably now a major tourist attraction with some wonderful murals to keep a keen photographer busy for some time.
We stopped along the way for a coffee break, just the sort of business that the murals were intended to encourage, and when we left we carried with us one of the more vivid memories of our entire holiday.
Definitely worth a specific trip to enjoy this unusual form of art.
