Birken Lakeside Resort
Reviewed September 12, 2013

This was our second trip to Birken and we once again had a wonderful time. The managers are friendly and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay relaxing.
If you are looking for a 5 star resort this is not the place for you. It's like a step back in time to the %0's with a wide open campground deep in old trees with cabins built for Cp rail in the 1900's. These cabins have been retrofitted and are fun extremely comfortable and funky with a theme in each cabin. You have everything you need except food.
There is a lovely private swimming area across the road on Gates Lake which is beautiful. The management has spent lots of energy to upgrade as many things as possible ands has expanded the deck area by the lake to accomodate more people. There are kayaks for guests use as well.
The resort has lured a foodtruck with an excellent chef to the roadside in front of the resort. Chack out the Lakeside Grill on Facebook. This has become a weekend gathering place for locals and travellers alike. We will definitely be going back

Myself and a few of my friends were staying in the cabins here during August. WOW! This place is absolutely beautiful. Big thank you to the management staff... they were very professional and helpful. They were crucial in making our stay comfortable and we are so grateful for their exceptional hospitality and kindness.

I highly recommend this resort to all who are seeking a space in nature that is free from the hassles of the outside world. This land is paradise! Thank you so much for everything and we look forward to coming back to the resort in the near future.

We booked a campsite at the grounds 3 months in advance. When we arrived the owner said that they were hosting a "party tonight." What we didn't anticipate was that she booked a 3 day music festival at the campground where 100's of people were coming to stay in her tiny campground (with 2 toilets) for 3 nights. When we approached her and told her that this wasn't what we were expecting she said... well you can leave because I'll have no problems filling your site. She was rude and lost us as yearly customers. What we really would have appreciated is call in advance telling us about her choice to book this festival. We were not happy at all.

Many years ago, under a different owner, this property was a magical and well-run place. The cabins were reasonably priced, given the level of ‘rustic’ amenities, or lack of. Coldwater cabins, no toilets, super jam-packed with all manner of ‘stuff’, some with tiny fridges, central bath-house, having to cross the highway to get to the rickety dock on the lake., etc. But all of those things are immaterial IF the place is not crazy expensive and is reasonably clean and maintained.

In recent years, the pricepoint has risen significantly, with negligible improvement to the ‘rustic’ features, and even less attention paid to basic cleanliness (to put it politely). Plus, you have to pay extra for firewood now.
Not very good value.

I agree with Elisa. I found the cabins masively overpriced and totally packed with so many knick-knacks that you couldn't get the place clean if you tried. The microwave was on top of the fridge, everything felt cramped and dirty .. and dark! I didn't want to stay there but since I was in a group had not much choice. It's also completely unsafe if you have little ones because the lake is across a busy road with blind corners. Also not much sunny space to relax in. Mostly shadowy and dark.

If you're looking for a great resort for a group event, look no further than Birken Lakeside resort. We've held a large group event for three years running and everyone always had a great time. The theme cabins are cute and fun and the campground is rustic. The bathrooms are always clean and have hot showers!! The owner has always been friendly and accommodating, and the 2012 camp host was the best so far (thanks Annie).

This campground is a great choice for family reunions and musical events!

The only downside was the weather the last couple of years, but I'm sure if they could bring us sunshine, they'd do that too.
