We have the brunch when we stay at the Tonquin Inn and it is very tasty. The dinner is also very good, but we were a little disappointed with the lounge, though the staff was very friendly.

Having just taken my son out for his 32nd Birthday at the "Prime Rib Village" i have to report that i was so disappointed with the end to end service, from the greeting at the door, to the 15 minute wait it took to get my over priced bill to be paid. Andrew had been looking forward to his Birthday meal for a number of weeks after reading good reviews for this establishment. For some reason however his and my experience were completely different from those that others have experienced, My main disappointment was in the service and food quality. We both chose the "king of steaks" NY Strip, only to have both well over-cooked and accompanied by a poor vegetable selection (note Boil in the bag RICE if you chose to go the healthy route). Also, be brave asking for a different veg combination to what they provide as the service staff are not "agreeable". At no point were we asked if "everything was ok" with our meal, something that we had been asked at least 5 times every other dinner time whilst in Canada for the past 2 weeks!

All in all a great disappointment for what should have been such a special meal for Andrew. i wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone else especially if they were looking for a location for a special occasion. the Price is not justified by the service and the quality of the delivered food.

Head to Earls, much better!

As we arrived after a long days travel we opted to eat at the hotel restaurant. The food was well prepared, we had prime rib and lamb chops, and efficiently served. Pricing was a little on the high side for the area.

My wife and I ate here last night. The waiter was very friendly and helped us with the menu and drinks service. We both ordered different prawn dishes. The prawns were the biggest we had ever seen. We asked to upgrade the turf & surf from New York strip to fillet to go with the lobster tail. For $8 more it wasn't a problem. I had the prime rib. Both came with veg & potatoes. Both dishes were perfect. Not thinking we would manage a dessert we were given time to digest before convincing ourselves that we shouldn't miss out. We both opted for the Baileys cheesecake. We should have ordered one between us as they were huge. The half litre of house wine selections were good. We had the Gallo White Zinfandel at a reasonable price. The restaurant is at he quiet end of the town, on the outer north edge amongst the hotels/motels. I understand that the nearby hotels are currently under-occupied hence the restaurant was nearly empty. Don't be put off with only a handful of diners as you walk past and look in. Excellent position for us as we were staying at Chateau Jasper across the road, meaning I could park up the car and enjoy the evening. We had a cocktail in the adjoining Nick's Bar. Yet again attentative table service with very reasonably priced drinks. The bill comes with service included which makes things easy.
