“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We stayed 2 nights in Jasper. The hotel does not look that great from the outside, but when you're inside, it is really nice with open spaces and lots of green. The food at the restaurant was good. The rooms were very good, lots of space and clean. My daughter enjoyed the pool. It is a 15min walk out of town, which is ok. All the staff were very friendly.

We paid about $220 for the night. I would consider this hotel to be a 3 and a half star hotel. Our room actually got some mountain view. In short, we had a good & comfy sleep and have no complaints. I would consider it to be excellent if it provides free continental breakfast since it would save the traveler a lot of time.

We normally stay in 4-star hotels, so we were wondering how much we'd like this place since it is rated in most websites as 3-star. Nice! Front desk staff was attentive, prompt, friendly, courteous, and professional upon check in (and we were a little early). The place is impeccably clean and our room was spacious and very comfortable. Each staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The location is right on the edge of town, so you are in striking distance of anything you would want to do. The only reason I didn't give "excellent" as the review is the a/c system. Luckily, the temperature on our visit didn't need a/c. It was perfect. However, we did turn it on during the day and think it might've been a problem sleeping with it as each time it cycled on it did so with a loud ka-chunk sound! Just thought I'd point that out if you are a light sleeper and need a/c. Again, we didn't so everything was terrific for us. Thanks Sawridge!

Dear txump,
We are very delighted to hear that we were able to live up to your 4-star expectations! Thank you very much for your kind review. Our upcoming renovations (fall 2013 and early winter 2014) will see one hundred of our guest rooms totally renovated – which will address the unfortunate issue encountered with the air conditioning unit. Thank you for bringing this up to our attention. We look forward to being your hotel of choice again on your next Canadian Adventure!

Initially given a room on the second floor above the kitchens. Much banging of doors and noise until after midnight. Reception agreed to move us to the 3rd floor which they assured us would be quieter. Unfortunately they forgot to mention the coachload of children that arrive early evening and who made a racket on their balconies until after midnight. They then got up very noisily at 5.30am! Regretfully any adults in charge took no action. There were families with small children along the same corridor. Surely they could have organised rooms so that the coach party were all next to each other and not spread out along the corridor?

Cooked breakfast disappointing and lukewarm. Continental breakfast much better. Evening meal was excellent.

For a supposed luxury hotel, this one didn't impress me. Nice new granite countertops in the bathrooms, but terrible cheap shower heads. Clean (dry) towels dropped off when requested, but the wet ones just left on the floor for the duration of our stay. Comfortable chairs in the dining area, but swears in the loud "background" music. Good scrambled eggs, but terrible sausages and dried out old croissants. A choice of down or polyfill pillows and comfortable beds, but a horrible noisy AC unit that kept us awake until 4:30 a.m. Staff that genuinely apologizes for things that go wrong or aren't up to standard, but bad things keep happening. The one thing this Inn has over other places is a very nice pool with no echo issues at all. And perhaps a better-than-average breakfast buffet. My husband, who has been in many more hotels than I have, would actually rate this hotel as Terrible. If you do take a chance and stay at the Sawridge, be aware that it is probably the farthest hotel from "downtown" Jasper, but that's still just a 10 minute walk. We didn't find it to be a problem, and neither did our kids. As a side note, late August is an excellent time to visit Jasper. It's not crowded at all!

Room Tip: Don't get a room with an old AC unit!!

Paid sawridge in full Mar. 26/13 $305.00 for one night Aug 21/13 that's 6 mo. in advance that they had payment in full.Manager Julie Haley gave our room away, dispite the fact that I called the hotel direct 3 days before arrival,(Aug 18) and was informed that they did indeed have payment in full and a room booked in the Atrium. They moved us 7 KM out of town so we never did get to see Jasper---Thanks Julie Haley

We stayed here two nights during a tour of the Rockies.

This hotel is the furthest out along Connaught Drive so you need a car to get into Downtown Jasper, or take a long walk. But it means that the place is relatively quiet. The balcony door and windows are well sound-proofed so we didn't hear the trains going along the track across the street.

We had a very pleasant room with balcony, well equipped. The layout of the hotel is unexpected, but very nice. The central atrium, going up all three floors, contains the main dining room, alongside which is the indoor pool and tub - an unusual combination (which we then found repeated at our next hotel, the Coast Kamloops Hotel) but it worked well. We enjoyed the pool.

We ate at their own restaurant one night and went downtown for the next. If you want pies and pastries for snacks or to take on the road, then you have to go to Bear Foot Cafe.

I recommend Sawridge.

Dear Malawi40,
Thank you for the lovely comments. We are thrilled you enjoyed our facilities, and had an enjoyable visit to Jasper. The Bear's Paw bakery is indeed one of Jasper's hidden gems. We look forward to being of service to you the next time you visit the Canadian Rockies, and trust you had a safe return home.
