A true wonder of nature but frightening to see how much its actually melted and receded over the years. The drop over the edge in the Ice Explorer is fantastic.

the big snow bus look tiny from the center. The center look small from on the ice. But the snow bus tire is as tall as a person. The melt icy water is very tasty!

We walked to the glacier late in the afternoon and it was beautiful. Its a little trek (don't know why they don't open the bottom car park!) but don't let it put you off.
There are facts and figures along the way which are great and lots of photo opportunities. I loved it and would highly recommend.

Arrived just a few days (late September) before the Ice Field closed for the winter. Much less crowded on weekdays than weekends. Incredible experience, attentive employees, informative. The whole trip is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, though only 20 minutes or so are actually spent on the glacier. There's a fairly lengthy line to board a bus that takes you to the base of the glacier. You then board a giant bus with 5 foot tires that actually drives you onto the glacier. The drive on this bus is fascinating. Once at the glacier, you get off the bus and can walk on the glacier. Great photo opportunities. Be sure to check the weather. We were going to go on a Saturday on our way to Jasper, but the weather was poor, with limited visibility and high wind (as well as big crowds). We returned on a Tuesday with great weather and less crowds.

One of the most amazing drives/rides from Jasper to Banff. Spectacular scenery and wildlife along the whole way, don't forget to stop into Lake Louse.
