“Bad beds, bad shower, overpriced”
Reviewed September 4, 2010

When we pay $250 for a motel room (3 adults), we expect at least decent beds and shower. We got neither. The queen bed in the separate bedroom sagged in the middle, so we got a lousy night's sleep. Our adult daughter said the sofabed had a bar down the middle of it, which ruined her sleep as well. The bathroom is so tiny that a person can barely turn around in it. The shower head was powerful, but the water temperature swung from cold to hot and I almost got burned. The room includes a full kitchen. Be sure to wash your dishes or you will be charged $15, according to the nasty sign. The living room was large but poorly lit, and there were stains on the carpet. We had a quiet stay except for squeaky doors in our room. This Best Western has an expensive restaurant, so we ate at Jasper Pizza instead. The food was good and not as overpriced as Best Western's restaurant. The main shopping area of Jasper is within a few blocks of the motel.

Dingy rooms, although very spacious (we had a room with a Queen and a loft with 3 singles). Beds were very soft. Office staff was indifferent. No elevator, so if you're with heavy luggage, ask for a room on the bottom floor. Close to downtown. Overall, was clean but I wouldn't stay there again. There are a number of "chalets" on the way into town that looked much nicer.

Th is was a great spot to stay for the night. I loved the loft room and the kids slept on the hideabed. Only complaint was that another guest was smoking on their balcony nearby so the smoky smell kept coming in. The room was comfortable, had a little sink, microwave, stove and fridge. This was great as we went to the grocery store (way overpriced) and saved money by eating our breakfast in our room. Be sure to do your own dishes..there was a small sign by the sink that said they would charge you for doing your dishes if you left them behind!! The hotel was in the town of Jasper, within walking distance to the shops etc.

We stayed at the Best Western in Jasper because of the great reviews. The cost was a little on the high end but we also stayed during high season; our rate was $175 CAD plus taxes. We booked the kitchenette suite because it offered a bit more room with the kids. Again another great hotel to separate the kids at bed time in the kitchen area (they used the pullout couch) and at night we could watch TV because there was one by the queen bed. The kitchenette was full of dishes, soap, washcloths and small appliances. They don’t have air-conditioning but there is an oscillating fan in the room that you can plug in and/or open the windows. We found that most of the hotels in the mountains don’t have air-conditioning even the Fairmont in Lake Louise. The hotel was fantastic; we took advantage of their indoor pool, hot tub, dry and wet sauna. The wet sauna was the best. It had lots of steam and was really hot, the best in Alberta. These areas were always clean and fully stocked with towels. The lounge looks out into the pool area but it’s covered with trees so you don’t have to worry about hiding in your swimsuit! We also had breakfast and it was such an amazing deal. It was $12.99 for buffet and fully stocked and fresh with everything from fresh fruit to bacon and eggs, and they didn’t charge our three year old. Being from a big city we typically spend $19 to $25 on a buffet and they charge $5 for kids. We found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and full of advice on where to go in Jasper. Also upon our departure the main carpet was being replaced so you can tell that they do care about hotel appearance and when we didn’t think it was that bad to begin with. I also posted pictures.

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of July and were in the Maligne suite building. Our room was a little larger than others and had a nice sized bathroom with a separate shower and jacuzzi tub. The jacuzzi tub was for two people and nowadays you feel guilty using it as it is such a waste of water.

This room also had a fridge and a sepate sink outside of the bathroom. Although the room felt a little dated it worked well for our needs. The only really issue is that it was 29 degrees in Jasper and the room did not have AC. Good thing we were on the second floor as we left the door open at night (just closed the screen door).

In terms of value.......overpriced. We stay on the beach in Maui during Spring Break for less and we have stayed in New York City for less (Sheraton & Hampton Inn).
