Good hostel all round. Kitchen ok, rooms ok (thinish beds but not uncomfortable), toilets in separate building, no shower (but river if you're willing!), great location for the outdoors (not great for jasper town), fair price.

Expect minimal facilities (it is a wilderness hostel) and you'll be happy.

Hostel had lost our reservation and the staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. Ended up heading back to Jasper and paying more to stay in a hotel.
Seemed to be no communication with the reservations department who had the booking in their system and refused to refund us for the pre paid night.

This place is awesome! It is in front of the Canyon, there are no lights close. good place to be calm and appreciate the stars. There are no showers and as the manager said this is "wifi free spot", what is good, so you can appreciate the nature. Also, cell phones don't work in the area. The place is clean, organized and sustainable. I would definitely stay again.

The Maligne Canyon Hostel is on the Maligne Lake Road, and is only about 15 minutes from Jasper. That gives it a big advantage - it's near enough to town for all the restaurants and other attractions, and it's far enough away to be a true wilderness hostel. with quiet nights and even a few bears.

If you don't mind 'rustic' (which means bunkhouses, outhouses and water from a cistern) you'll love Maligne Canyon. The facility consists of a cookhouse and a few cabins, each with two rooms of six bunks each. The price is right, too, at only $25.00 a night.

Hostels are pretty cool. You'll find yourself meeting a whole bunch of new friends, sharing dinners and conversation. If you're not sure what activities you want to do, there are always people with helpful advice and good suggestions. You'll meet people from around the world, one who enjoy the adventures of traveling rather being pampered at some resort.

Room Tip: Call ahead or make a reservation online. If you have a group of six, you can get a room to yourselves.

The guy running the place is very friendly and has a lot of 'trapper' stories to tell. The place in nice and clean, fully furnished kitchen. Just remember this is a wilderness HI, i.e. no hot water, and you have to get the cold one from the river next by.
