“Not up to modern standards and attention needed to cleaning standards”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We stayed here for one night as part of a tour - arriving on The Canadian (train).

On opening the door to our room, there was an unpleasant smell similar to wet dog. On closer inspection, the cleaners need to use the edging tool on the hoover as the carpets were far from clean around the edges. Our room was in a lower level partially below ground so we had to look up out of our window to see ground level - not really ideal.

The room had no air conditioning - fortunately we didn't need it the night we were there but It can get hot in the summer and I would not want to be in the room on a hot night - being below ground level and having the window open would compromise security and I don't imagine the air would circulate very well.

On the plus side, the hotel is in a good location - just out of the centre of town but on 10 minutes walk. The bed was very comfortable.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments and I am disappointed that our housekeeping was not up to standards in this room. Upon entering a guest room for the first time it should smell and look clean & fresh so what happened in this case is definitely not our standard. I have reviewed our standards with our housekeeping team to ensure that we do not repeat this error.
I am glad you liked our new beds and we have received lots of compliments on them.

We stayed here as part of a 2 week trip around the Rockies & BC, in July.

Lobstick Lodge is positioned almost at the end of the Jasper townsite. It takes about 10 min walk to restaurants & shops, which we found pleasant as it was very peaceful through residential streets and felt more of an authentic place. Jasper is very low rise and spaced out, it has a really nice atmosphere, much more "local" than Banff feels.

Lobstick Lodge has a lot of rooms, but it never felt busy or crowded, although we occasionally heard people in the room next door. Each wing is set around small green areas, so there is no road noise, and nice to have trees outside the windows.

Our room was very spacious - 2 5ft beds, and plenty of room for cases etc. The décor is a little dated but facilities are good, and very clean. The bathroom looked newly decorated, and was very clean and spacious. Good toiletries / towels.

The gym had limited facilities, but was adequate for what we used during a holiday. The pool was small but clean. There are also 4 outdoor hot tubs which are really relaxing.

We had breakfast in the hotel - the buffet option is $14.99 but was plentiful and had good selection of items. Pancakes & French toast were delicious! There is also a menu option as well, which had lots of options.

We really enjoyed our stay in Jasper, and found it more relaxing than Banff. Overall Lobstick Lodge looks a little dated, but the service was great, and we had a really comfortable stay.

Other tips for Jasper:
Annette & Edith lakes - warm enough to swim in on a warm day.
Brew Co Jasper is a great bar / restaurant on the main town road, good beers, food and music.
Bears Paw Bakery - amazing cakes
Jasper Tour Company - excellent wildlife evening tour - the highlight of our whole trip, saw so much wildlife (including bears & cubs), it was amazing!

We're happy with the free wifi and $9 Continental breakfast but were a bit disappointed with the stuffy stinky smell of the room and stains on the carpet. The hotel lobby is well maintained and the kitchenette in the rooms are nice but I think the hotel needs to seriously steam clean or replace the carpeting and air out the rooms once in a while. It was okay but not great. The staff are friendly and nice which is good.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments, Our kitchen units are very popular and we do air them out after each guest, I am not sure what happened in your case as we can deal with most odors quite quickly. We do have a steam cleaning program which follows a schedule as well as dealing with stains as they happen. Thank you for your comments about our staff, they are always appreciated.

Our room was very dated and not comfortable at all. The towels were white and stained; the beds were hard, and there was no air conditioning. We left our windows open to try to cool off the room enough for us to sleep but it started to storm outside (lightning and thunder, no rain) and the power in the hotel went out. My kids were terrified. We did not get much sleep at all. We were also told that this was in a great location, but we quickly found out that it isn't. Since we got in later and have small kids, it was too far to walk to find a restaurant. To make matters worse, it took forever to find a parking spot with how busy Jasper is in the summer.

Dear Guest,
I am sorry you did not have an enjoyable stay. There were a few power outages recently which were town wide however the longest the power was out was just over an hour. I am concerned about your comment about the beds and the towels. We just replaced all our beds with pillow top`s which are quite comfortable and approved by the Canadian Chiropractic Association. We do our laundry in house and sometimes stains do not come out after one wash however we do have procedures in place to put these through again, obviously this did not happen in your case. Our housekeeping department have reiterated these procedures with the necessary staff. I do hope you will visit Jasper again and give us a chance to redeem ourselves.

We got to Jasper and started looking for lodging in August. We didn't think there would be a problem getting a room, but there wasn't many rooms availabe for that night in any hotel around town. At $200 a night this was the lowest. No choice, but not worth it.

Room Tip: No AC...Just fan

The hotel is a little out of the centre, but Jasper is pretty small and so it's all relative. We had a family room of two queens and a double sofa bed. The furniture is a little dated but clean enough, although the sofabed looked better to sleep on (with clean sheets) than to sit on (with well used cushions).

Parking was easy, front desk friendly and we hooked up to the wifi, so it was all sufficient for a one night stay.

An extremely noisy crow woke us up in the night, but that's the local wildlife for you!

We checked into this place and found the room to be standard. Tea and coffee making facilities and fans provided as no aircon available. Take some mosquito spray as they are tiny but it's irritating if u get bitten. Staff friendly and helpful. Food fair and breakfast buffet very good. Location central and short walk into town in 15 minutes.

Room Tip: If visiting in summertime I suggest a room away from the main road although we had a room near the m...
