This lodge reminded me an old family vacation compound. So much to do...activities galore including smores by the lake. Plenty of trails, lakes, rugged mountains and wAter. Staff is friendly and restaurants have great menus. We opted for the italian by the lake.

Hard to get to but worth it

Great view, excellent food, wonderful helpful service. Love listening to the loons on the lake.
Great place to take kids and just let them play. Wonderful displays of art in lobby. Love the smell of the big fireplace.

Jasper Fairmont lodge

A bit kitsch. It’s a bit like a summer camp while beetle damaged trees spoil the look. The resort all looks a bit aged for Fairmont. A good golf course and the town itself is a shuttle ride way. The Jasper Harley Davidson experience is a very fun activity. Food in the restaurant here is expensive as are the drinks. Breakfast is very good. $18 a glass for a moderate quality wine. The shuttle service is reliable and good.

We stopped in to the Lodge for a look around as the grounds are stunning. The entrance to the JPL is truly spectacular with vaulted ceilings, grand fireplace seating areas and stunning artwork by Doris McCarthy. We were immediately drawn to Stanley, a black lab seated by an exit as you walk down a grand staircase to beautiful Lac Beauvert. We inquired with the concierge if we could take Stanley on a walk around the Lake and to our surprise he was available and eager to show us around. We hooked up Stanley’s leash and with a few instructions about motivating him with treats we were off. It was clear that Stanley had a mind of his own and a clear agenda for what he wanted to show us.

The first stop was at the lake where he showed us the boat rental area where you could rent paddle boats, kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards all equipped with life vests and seemed a beautiful way to spend the day on the crystal clear lake. Stanley pointed out two lions and their babies and flocks of geese enjoying the refreshing lake. He pulled us towards an area where colorful adarondak chairs dotted the lawn which was the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of tea and a good book while taking in the breathtaking views. We didn’t have time to sit although Stanley would have quite loved a lay down in the grass beside the lovely chairs. Stanley’s next stop was at a beautiful platform overlooking the lake where swimmers could easily enter for a refreshing swim. We carried on, there were smells in the grass and wonderful butterflies Stanley wanted to show us from beautiful painted ladies to swallowtails and lovely green and yellow butterflies dancing around the many wild flowers. He stopped at every fantastic view spot along the lake hike. He even pointed out all the trees with squirrel and chipmunk spots. Towards the back of the lake Stanley showed us the golf course from the hiking path where golfers were enjoying the magnificent sunshine, fresh mountain air and the beautiful views from the fairways. Stanley showed us the premier cabins on the property where the Queen and other members of the Royal Family stay.

On our walk with Stanley we found tennis courts and a full outdoor basketball court, horse riding stables and an outdoor planetarium. Stanley walked us past the gorgeous swimming pool that was both outdoor and indoor as well as the entrance to the shops and Mountain Gallery in the Lodge basement.

The entire area was immaculate and well maintained. We returned Stanley to his bed and house and we gave his leash back to the concierge. As we said goodbye to Stanley he pointed us in the direction of the restaurant where we were seated at a beautiful umbrella table with the most amazing mountain and lake view. The cocktails and food were beautifully presented and the cuisine was delicious. The staff at the Lodge were professional, friendly, efficient and courteous. It is truly a romantic destination, great for families with old and young members, great for couples or getaways with friends. There is something of interest here for everyone. It is the perfect place for a pampered getaway.

My wife and I booked a lakeside room for ourselves and one for the kids. This was to be a couple of days in a very special family holiday.

We arrived at 1.30pm and were told that check in wasn’t available until 4pm, but they’d try and hurry housekeeping along. Not a problem, we used the wait to grab something to eat. Our room was ready at 3.30, our kids’ room took until 5.30pm.

The rooms are now quite frankly vastly overpriced for what you get. A stand alone AC unit, noisy and in the way as opposed to a built in unit. The room is equipped with a ceiling fan. The furnishings and decor are tired and past it.

The bathroom simply is a disgrace in a hotel of this standing. An over bath shower with a curtain and a toilet jammed in next to it.

Our king sized bed was comfortable but spoiled by spongy pillows the sort of which give you a crick in your neck and just don’t quite let you get comfortable.

On our second night, we were in the seated area of the room when we were able to commune with nature a bit more closely than we had expected. We saw what we think was a mouse run across our bedroom floor and behind the tv cabinet. I accept that when in the country this type of thing can happen but,
- I had seen something similar the day before and persuaded myself that it was a trick of the light reflecting off the ceiling fan
- the mouse creature completely disappeared suggesting an entry/exit hole used previously.

I messaged the Royal Service dept who to be fair appeared sympathetic and offered to send someone to lay traps or move us. To be fair, what else could they do at 11pm or so.

That all said, the restaurant was good, the food excellent and the serving staff as good as ever, though no Fairmont food could ever be regarded as inexpensive.

The bell team and valet staff as always at Fairmont hotels were top quality.

We stayed here 3 years ago and I reviewed this hotel and gave it 5 stars. We believed in the legend and booked again. With the various government taxes (and the Fairmont stealth tax otherwise known as “Resort Tax” at $30 per room per night) the cost was $1000 per room per night.

Fairmont never ever provided value for money, but did provide unbridled luxury and exclusivity for the high cost of the rooms provided. In this case it amounted (in my view) to almost daylight robbery and the CEO of Accor which now owns the Fairmont brand should at least have the decency to wear a mask when he goes about his business.

How disappointed we were. We will not stay at this hotel again.

Lest anyone think I’m bitter, far from it. I like the Fairmont brand and will use other Fairmont hotels in the future, just not this one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, PapaLazarou2013. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and genuinely appreciate you flagging the matter with us. Being situated in a national park can pose some unusual challenges including the above described. The cabin experience (particularly during summer when doors are frequently opened) is more susceptible to park presence. While it is rare (and we take every measure to be proactive) should any wildlife finds it way indoors we follow Parks Canada’s guidelines on humane catch and release.
Please know that we take our commitment to both our guests and the environment very seriously. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. If you would allow us, our management team would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly about your stay. Please reach out to us at JasperParkLodge@Fairmont.com. We hope you will give us another opportunity to show you the quality hospitality and accommodations you expect should you return to Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in the future.
