We recently spent a night at the lodge - our 3rd visit, but first in the summer. It was, as expected, fantastic. We had a beautiful deluxe 1 bedroom suite with spectacular views and our kids loved the pool. The amenties are excellent; the staff very professional and courteous. My husband loved the golf course!! One of my favourite Fairmont resorts!!

Just spent 3 nights August 12-13-14 there in an Executive King room which cost approx. $300. night including taxes. Grounds of hotel were lovely, staff was attentive and very friendly. However, when they describe themselves as "rustic" they mean it! With the exception of the comfortable bed, and nice amenities in the bathroom, the furniture looked like it belonged in my grandmother's lake cottage 50 years ago! Walls and decor hadn't been touched in years. To make matters worse, sound-proofing between the walls was non-exsistant--I could hear the occupants in the next room use their bathroom at 5:00AM , and had to endure a barking howling dog in the room next door on the last night. Food prices were pretty outrageous also--$25. for an omlette! We went to a buffet one night there for $42.00 per person. That was a little better value as they served seafood and tenderloin on the buffet. I liked the grounds, but honestly as we drove around Japser I saw some very nice places that I shall investigate further for next time. I will not come here again until I read that the hotel has gone through a major renovation.

We spent four nites there in August which is the high season for the lodge. Here is the summary:
Main Lodge .. very warm and comfortable. Overlooks a beautiful private lake.
Restaurants ... excellent food but very pricey. We opted to eat in town.
Golf course ... very scenic and good for even mid-high handicappers.
Gym, Pool & Spa ... first class.
Grounds ... spectacular!
Service ... front desk and concierge was first class and very responsive.
Location... certainly helps if you have a car since the Lodge is 3km from town.

Annoyances---
Room itself was nothing more than a basic motel room. Of course upgrades are available to full suites or even full cabins.
Room was not serviced one day.
Reserved a king size bed, but we were given a double (not even a queen). We requested (and received) a room change.
Messages were not received on the phone due to a problem with the phone. Very annoying because several people were trying to call us.
We were not briefed on joining the 'Fairmont President's Club' at checkin even though we were staying four nites (recommend that you inquire about this).

ALL IN ALL THOUGH THIS WAS A VERY GREAT STAY ... HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AS THE PLACE TO STAY IN JASPER.

We stayed here for three nights. We were given two lakeside bungalows which connected with each other which was perfect. The location is stunning. The central lodge houses all the bars, restaurants, gyn, spa and shops. there is a golf course for the gofers - which we are not. Plenty to do - fishing, kyaking, horse riding, swimming etc.
The restaurants were good, although we were allowed to over order in one which we could have been warned about had the waiter been doing his job. that said, the food and service were excellent which is what you would expect from a Fairmont.

Not cheap, but advance bookings helped!

The location (a pretty lake) was the only plus side to this awful hotel. The atmosphere was a bit like that holiday camp in Dirty Dancing - enforced merriment for an age before the concept of service existed. It didn't help that on arrival we were marshaled by the kind of cheery greeter that either makes one want to flee North America or take advantage of the local gun laws.

The rooms are laid out in blocks of cabins in several rows on one side of the lake without much elevation, so only the very first row has lake views. Our cabin had views directly into our neighbours and onto the street with only dirty net curtains to protect our mutual modesty.

The cabins are linked by asphalted roads and you park (in theory) outside your cabin. As the cabins are tiny and not raised at all, and without outside space in front of them, this meant our sleeping heads were only about two metres from a road with cars, bikes and golf carts passing with guests at all hours. As it was pretty full when we stayed in July, parking was a huge problem – you don't expect to have to circle round and round to find a parking space in such an expensive hotel, and of course all the other guests were doing the same thing, making the noise from the road ridiculous.

If we could have closed the flimsy windows, perhaps this might have made a difference to the noise level but unfortunately it was hot and there was no air-conditioning. The ceiling fan was entirely ineffectual.

The room decor was no better than the design – small, tired and dank, with lots of dark forest green chipped woodwork. Other highlights included a suspiciously itchy bedspread, sheets that didn't actually cover the mattress and a filthy unplugged empty fridge (what is the Fairmont aversion to minibars about?). The rickety front door lock was broken for our first night, and there was no safe, but to the hotel's credit this had been fixed for our second night. The tiny bathroom immediately became a unanticipated wetroom on taking a shower, but the resident humongous spiders didn't seem to mind.

We didn't take advantage of hotel services, wanting to pass as little time as possible in the hotel itself, but when we did phone the concierge they were always too busy to answer the telephone. In person, they didn't seem to know much about the limited number of restaurants in Jasper. The common areas of the hotel are glorified luxe conference centre – all squelchy carpets, cheap fake mahogany and gold lettering. Even the six-foot grizzly teddy bear (I think there's a Canadian bylaw obliging every public space to have one) was sad and tattered.

Next time in Jasper, I would book a cheap cabin anywhere else – chances are it will be cleaner, quieter more modern and further away from a road and it won't be coasting on the luxury brand coattails of the Fairmont name.

We stayed at the Fairmont Jasper Lodge for 2 nights to celebrate our 20th anniversary in July. We had reserved on their website for about $349CAD/night on the 99 Ways to Play promotion which provides a $99CAD credit per night to be used towards hotel meals or activities. The hotel is spread out over a number of separate drive-up motel type buildings with a cabin motif. The main lodge building is attractive, similiar in style to US national park lodges. When we got to our room, we were quite dissappointed. The room (411) was very small, the bed taking up most of the room. Their was no air conditioning and it was HOT! If you opened the curtains and windows, you were on full display to other guests accross the way or walking by. We saw way more of our neighbors than we were interested in seeing! Trying to keep cool at night, meant sleeping with curtains open and lights glaring into the room. The furnishings looked old and tired- like what you would expect to see in an old fashioned roadside motor lodge. There was a stain on the bathroom wallpaper and the showerhead fell off one day. We requested to change rooms twice but were told there was nothing else available. I called the manager and also left a note and NEVER heard back from the hotel manager or anyone else to respond to our concerns. Then let me tell you about the bar in the main lodge. The area where table service was provided is small and constantly overcrowded. You can sit in the surrounding areas but you have to walk up to a single bar to get service. We waited in line for over 10-15 minutes each time we wanted to buy a drink. The midrange hotel restaurant set us back $250 for dinner for 2 and an average bottle of wine. Finally, at the hotel you self park, ideally near the building where your room is. There is not enough parking near the rooms, however, so you spend 15-30 minutes looking for parking each time you come back from an outing. This hotel and the service are an embarassment to the Fairmont name. The surroundings in Jasper National Park are indeed beautiful, but beautiful surroundings do not justify providing substandard rooms and service. NOT EVEN CLOSE to worth the money. PS We stayed at the Fairmont Lake Louise for 3 nights before going to the Jasper Park Lodge. It was more expensive but worth every penny with beautiful rooms and excellent service.

Wonderful setting, awful, expensive accommodation. Tired rooms with no air conditioning. Service very spotty. The bar staff appear to be college students who are poorly trained and surly. I made the mistake of sitting down in the bar just before a shift break and waited five minutes with waiter after waiter passing without comment. I eventually asked the barman if we could have service. He responded we should ask our server. I said had been waiting quite a while and none had paid any attention. He asked as surly as he could manage what I wanted. I told him and he said, he had never heard of cider. Finally a server appeared and took our order only to go on break and left for ten minutes while our drinks sat at the bar. Another "vigilant" server finally asked if we had been served? I said yes those are our warming drinks on the bar etc.
The whole experience went like this including them getting our hotel bill wrong by $100 in their favour.
