I decided to post this after reading some really negative reviews on Trip Advisor about this wonderful place to stay in Jasper. This is simply a reminiscence of my time at Pine Bungalows 5 years ago. I will write another review upon my next visit in a few months.

During our road trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains we decided to treat ourselves and to stay at the "best" hotels in Banff and Lake Louise. The Fairmount hotels were pricey and gorgeously characteristic of a time gone by. However, I place myself in the category of simple folk who enjoy the simplicity of life instead of the pretentiousness that we are taught to embrace.

When we arrived at Jasper we could not find a room. We drove up to Pine Bungalows and were lucky to have found a cabin available. We opened the door to our cabin and my jaw dropped. We were greeted with a one room cabin where the kitchen, the bed and the fireplace were all in the same room. 5 years later this place still speaks to me. It was the most comfortable and enjoyable stay I have ever had in my life. I still remember being in bed and falling asleep to the glow of the fireplace. The Fairmount's, in my opinion, had nothing on this gem. Pine Bungalows was the highlight of our trip.

So much so, that I am now revisiting Pine Bungalows for almost 2 weeks instead of 1 night. I am super excited to simply enjoy the nature and the spirit of Jasper that Pine Bungalows captures. Sitting outside your cabin with a cup of tea and seeing the wildlife by the Athabasca River with the trees and mountain views in the background...nothing can compare to that.

I am eagerly counting the days until my return to Jasper and to Pine Bungalows. If you consider yourself someone who is more into nature, wildlife and star gazing than being 'plugged in' and gazing into the depths of your cell phone, Pine Bungalows is the place that should be first on your list.

I guarantee if you consider yourself someone in touch with the joys that simplicity brings you will never forget your stay at Pine Bungalows.

Cheers,
Antonio.

Loved our cottage. Three of us stayed in a two bedroom with a gas fireplace. This was a cozy cottage. Very clean and close to Jasper. we saw lots of wild life on the grounds elk, deer right behind the cottage. The cottage looked very new the beds were great the bathroom really clean and bright.I would stay here again. The service very friendly. Also right on the beautiful athabasca river. This town is close to alot of beautiful scenery that we wanted to see. We tryed alot of nice resturants in town which had great service and great food. The town of Jasper is really nice and clean. The National parks are well looked after and the rangers really look after the wild life. I really wish people would use more common sense and not distress our Canadian wildlife by keeping their distance. Some people are stupid by getting too close to Grizzly bears and if the animal did try to protect themselves they would suffer not you. Please educate yourselves before you think of that perfect picture. Also people who distressed a baby elk and the mother who was bringing her baby in the fast running water to save her baby . Just for a picture. People please think. This is a great thing to be able to see these animals and country let's keep it this way.

Room Tip: all are great

Whilst the management and staff were friendly, the owner was a horrible man who should never speak to paying guests if he wishes to keep them! As a tour group of 21 people paying well over what the place was worth, we were given no welcome whatsoever, in fact the owner went on to tell us that our driver was a moron for parking in the designated area because he was supposed to have realized that a conference was taking place. There was no signage. Over the next two days, individuals of our group including my self were belittled and patronized by the owner who shooed us away from communal areas, refused us use of the wifi, and spoke to us as lesser people to himself. I would ask you to avoid this place out of spite. The cabins themselves are gorgeous but everything else comes at an extra cost including firewood for your cabin and use of the barbecue area. The bungalows are a 20 minute walk out of Jasper or a ten dollar cab ride. Save yourself from that pathetic man and the distance and go next door to the jasper house bungalows. Or stay somewhere in town.

The tour group of 21 persons staying at Pine Bungalows were accommodated in cabins in various locations on the property which does not include internet in the cabins. The conference center on the property is reserved for functions and the participants are guests in the attached motel. This area has WIFI for their specific use only and it is not located near the cabins where the group of 21 were staying. Members of the group were asked to leave the conference center area as there was a function booked and they proceeded to act in a disrespectful manner including going inside the premises of the conference center (which is not for general public use) with their alcoholic beverages and also “plugging in” for Wifi in the hallway of the motel (which is not where they were staying). Similar incidents occurred consecutively with disrespect to the request to vacate the area. The writer mentions “communal area” and the conference center area is not designated as a “communal area” as an amenity of the property. Quoting the writer “ I ask you to avoid this place out of spite” is an indicator of the challenging situation that was presented by this group to management.
With respect to the bus driver it is an expectation one would check in at the office before driving a large tour size bus past an area that is occupied with paying guests sitting outside enjoying the fresh air and then experiencing the disturbances of fumes and noise generated by the bus.

We spent four nights at a riverside cabin in July. The one room, double bed cabin included an outdoor grill, picnic table, kitchen, and bathroom. The overall feel of the cabin was a bit aged, but the bathroom had been updated a bit. Kitchen was older, but everything worked fine and we prepared several meals there. Firewood is sold at the office and was reasonably priced. The location on the river was quiet and beautiful. The town of Jasper is only a few minutes drive and had a much more hectic feel with tour buses and traffic. Pine Bungalows is not luxurious, but offers a peaceful location and cooking facilities. We did not have children with us, but think they would love exploring the grounds and seeing the animals.

Room Tip: Riverfront cabins are older, but it is neat to watch the river.

We booked into the Pine Bungalows thru Booking.com and were told they were the last available. I guess it was the last available through Booking.Com as there were others available. The price was quite high for a very basic cabin with no amenities but I must say it was quiet and we were by the river. Too bad there was no firewood available for the fireplace.

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend trip. We weren't looking for anything fancy, just a clean and comfy place to crash at the end of a long day of hiking. We picked the Pine because of it's price (which was just about as cheap as you can go in Jasper) and also because each bungalow has a kitchenette, which we like because we want to be able to save on meals by making breakfast and lunches for our days.

The cabin was clean, although the furnishings are certainly retro and certainly not fancy. They kind of reminded me of visiting my great grandmother's country cabin when I was a kid. It wasn't glamourous, for sure, but like I said it was clean and comfy for a place we didn't actually spend much time in. Plus, with a fireplace right at the foot of your bed it was very romantic as well. There was also a picnic table and fire pit for every cabin if you like spending some relaxing time outside. The staff that we encountered were very nice and helpful.

The grounds had a lovely mountain view and were situated right beside the river, which was nice. There were also a few trails that went through and around the property for some easy strolling at the end of the day, and they had nice views. I really like that the property was arranged as a part of the natural landscape with lots of trees and bushes around. It was very serene and there was a lot of wildlife coming and going.

The property is located just a few seconds drive from downtown Jasper. It would probably be about 10 minutes to walk if you wanted to.

Room Tip: riverside rooms are close to the walking trails and have a nice view.

If you seek a quiet commune with nature, this is a great choice. We continue to return to these cabins, year after year. They are rustic with no telephone, television or wifi but a good working kitchen, heater and fireplace. Cellphone reception is excellent if you just have to keep connected. The riverfront cabins are ideal for two people or a family with the Athabasca river just 30 metres (100 feet) away. Elk, deer, Canada Geese and multiple other birds make this property their home and it is not unusual to see a bear or two (mother and cubs) wandering through the area. The town of Jasper is less than five minutes away by vehicle but no civilization is visible from the property. Jasper is less popular than is its sister, Banff, and much less hectic. There are very few souvenier shops but there is great shopping for everything from unusual kitchen supplies (like a garlic chopper or mandolin) to rare clothing (down under jacket complete with fleece liner) and a lunch of a homemade cheeseburger with fries and a huge draft beer will set you back about $10 plus tip. This burger will forever spoil you for the franchises. There are a large number of excellent restaurants for all tastes and budgets. After leaving the hectic city, this is an ideal spot to kick back. Our days typically begin with a full breakfast in the cabin and preparation of a lunch to be enjoyed on the shore of a pristine lake or the side of a mountain or the foot of a glacier. All of these adventures and much more are available within a short drive of the cabin. Then, returning to the cabin, there is a great hot shower followed by either a home cooked meal or dinner in town. After that, we enjoyed a bonfire in our own firepit with marshmellows and ended each evening under the stars. Jasper is world renowned for the unspoiled view of the stars and, in fact, celebrates this each year with a world class festival.

Room Tip: Take your choice. River view or inside cabin.
