“Cute, clean, cozy place to stay in Jasper”

I travel for a living, and this is one of the cutest, upscale places I have stayed in. The owners made me feel right at home, with a guided tour of the suite and suggestions on places to go for breakfast etc.

I would totally stay here again. The rates are great. Flat screen TV was awesome. Appearance of the rest of the facilities are neat and tidy with a beautifully groomed garden.

After reading previous negative reviews on this B&B, I am left uncertain as to whether I stayed at the same place - because my experience was nothing but great!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room can easily be rated 5 star yet very reasonably priced. Brand new decor and very tasteful - clean and cosy. One thing to mention that the rooms are located in the basement area, so there is limited natural light, but we have spent every waking hour outside anyways... The owner was very lovely, helpful and friendly. Located on Patricia street, 5 minutes walk from 'downtown' Jasper. All sites, walks, trails are easily accessible. We would definitely come back...

This new guest house is just wonderful! Should we keep them a secret - so we can have them all to ourselves?? Perhaps, but I'll be nice and share. Everything about this place is just great! The space, the decor, the "oh so nice" mattress, the spa-like bath, the flat screen with blu-ray...I could go on and on! I especially liked the way the owners explained everything well - then just let us enjoy our stay (respecting our schedule and privacy). The mini kitchen was great. And I really liked the revolving book exchange (leave one of yours - take one of theirs) - cool idea. The hosts provided the local newspaper and flyers for local attractions - yea! The parking was fine and I especially liked the separate private entrance. I highly recommend this place (except, of course, if you want a room the same weekend we do....can we call dibs??!!)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fitzhugh House.
The owners were very friendly and accommodating, making sure our needs were met.
The rooms are exceptionally well appointed, having great physical space, they are new, fresh and VERY clean; the kitchenette was perfect for our needs; nice flat screen TV with cable & Blue Ray DVD. The rooms had a private entrance which allowed us to come & go without any disturbance to the household. The bathroom is wonderful with lots of counter space for the ladies toiletries & "stuff".
I didn't find any of the negative issues experienced with other reviewers for the Fitzhugh. I am a fussy traveller and spend many months a year traveling for business. This was a nice family run B&B with clean amenities, the owners respected our privacy, yet were very easy to contact with any questions or requests.
My wife and I will definitely be back.

Have to agree with KerryEdmonton for the most part. It has potential but lacks in the details. Almost no interaction with the owners - maybe it's a USA thing but I would have preferred a bit more. how about inviting us to use the backyard? Did not appreciate the owner's statement when we arrived that "the flat screen is coming; and we don't have the discounts lined up yet that we said we would have" - thanks. Now I feel like I'm getting ripped off. Also, DO NOT go to dinner at the recommended Athabasca Hotel. Really? What a waste of a potential good dinner in Jasper.

Bathroom was never really cleaned during our 6 night stay. The one small window can't be helped due to the basement location- the basement turned out to be a bit of a blessing as heat rises and the room stayed generally pleasant. Thankfully we brought our own fan during the summer heatwave. Not even a fan in the bathroom so the place turns into a steamshower. There does not appear to be any in-room thermostat so you are at the mercy of the owners and their heat settings in the winter apparently.

Some art work wouldbe good. Also, the owners could keep in mind they have PAYING GUESTS in the basement - a bit less stomping on my head would have been better. All in all - ok - really, a few tweaks would improve this experience immensely.

The Fitzhugh House was very comfortable and quiet, and within walking distance of downtown Jasper. Pattie, the owner, was very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable and provided great service. I would recommend this B+B as a place to stay in Jasper.

We booked only two days in advance by phone and the first contact with Patricia was very nice and uncomplicated. We were not able to arrive in Jasper before 9:30 pm on a Friday evening and therefore I asked Patricia whether this would be okay: and it was no problem at all!

When we finally arrived on that Friday we were greeted by her son, who was very friendly. He showed us our room, asked if we needed anything else, received our payment for the two days rental and gave us some ideas for dinner and hiking trips for the next day. It was the first and the last time that we met one of the houseowners.

Since the room is in the basement and has only one very small window that doesn't let sunshine in the room, the room was a bit chilly. I simply list everything else:

Pros:
> quite new and modern rooms, tastefully furnished (with fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and some plates, cups, glasses and cutlery)

> nice + modern ensuite bathroom with large shower and a hair dryer (but no shower gel + shampoo, so bring your own).

> cosy and comfy queen size bed

> ski lockers right in front of the basement entrance

> ample on-street parking

Cons:
> since there is only one small window the room is always sunless and darkish

> there is no chair + small table in the room, so you can only sit on the bed

> there is no place to sit outside (e.g. after a day of hiking)

> no tv or radio in the room (although the technical supplies are already available)

> The owners didn't clean the room during our stay (even the only open garbage can in the bathroom was untouched). But they said they would change the towels if we leave them in the shower or on the floor.

> the temperature of the shower in the morning and in the evening was unsteady (from lukewarm in the evening to hot in the morning)

> the small built-in wardrobe provides only hangers (and since there are no chairs in the room you have to leave all your other clothes in your suitcase). Okay, that isn't a big thing, but when you get ready for bed, where do you put your t-shirt, underwear etc.? There is only the floor ...

> the room was (for our linking) only superficial clean, particularly the floor could have used a vacuum cleaning. But the sheets and towels were absolutely clean!

> the drawers of the nightstands included some pretty old stuff, so it seems nobody takes really care what's in there.

Other matters: make sure you ask the owners for the internet password in case you wanna use W-lan.

All in all: the room itself is nice, if you only(!) use it to sleep, because there is nothing to sit on and there is barely daylight. - you pay and get a bed and a bathroom, that's it. We simply missed at least a bit of the personal atmosphere, that B&B's usually provide. When we left on Sunday morning the owners didn't even notice that we left their house.
