This island is one of the most famous places if visiting the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The only way to get there is by travelling about 50 km from Jasper to Maligne Lake on a very scenic road and then taking a boat trip to the island. Most of the time the "island" is connected to the shore, but during our visit the lake level was about a metre higher than normal, so it was a true island.
You are at the mercy of the weather, and we did not see much sun on our trip. Despite that it was a great trip down the lake and we got some very good photos. The boat stops at the island for only about 20 minutes, so you have to dash on shore and find as many viewpoints as possible.
We took the last boat trip that left at 5 pm and arrived at the island some 45 minutes later.
