“A ROOM WITH A VIEW & A RIVER”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

Stayed three days in unit 28 ,which is the executive suite with balcony, over looking the Athabasca River. The room was well furnished and had a kitchen area suitable for breakfast - taken looking at the view of the river & glancing at the TV for the latest news. .Bathroom well kitted out - even with a Jacuzzi ( though my preference would have been to have a delux shower). We were very satisfied with unit 28 but it is not a cheap option -the highest per day rate we paid during our three week vacation to Western Canada.Had two dinners at the restaurant -one was very good and the other so so. Jasper House Bungalows has a large mix of units -I wonder if the ones closer to the river are for longer stay guests & others for the tour buses -hence the mixed reviews.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get the units closer to the Athabasca River

We enjoyed our stay at Jasper House. 2 nights with a Caravan Tour. The location was remote which was to our liking. We were disappointed our room wasn't facing something other than a parking lot this would probably detour us from returning. The rooms are rustic but have what you need. The bathroom is small but clean and modern. the room has a coffee pot and a mini refrig. There is a heater in the room. Some reviewers have mentioned Elk on the property they were also vacationing at the same time we were I guess. Breakfast buffet was OK nothing special. We ate dinner and it was nothing special but casual and the staff very friendly.

Jasper House is a national historic site although the current Jasper House is in a different location than the original one. Some of the units are duplex cottages with a kitchen, dining area, living room and second bed area. I say bed area because it was just a bed separated from the living room with a curtain. There is an extra charge for using the kitchen facilities. We were just two people and not in need of the kitchen so the accommodation was more than adequate. We did not have a river view which some of the units do have. There was no air conditioning and no safe deposit box. The motel type rooms have nice porches. Between the campfires, river and wildlife, I felt like I was back in summer camp. It may not have been the most beautiful accommodations, but it was very homey, friendly and fun. Every night, around 9:30, the elk would appear right behind our cabin or on the nearby driveway.

There was a river in the back of the property with benches and a trail along side it. It's less than 3 miles from town and we were able to walk back from town easily in 45 minutes. The breakfasts were just okay but the dinners were much better. Staff was friendly. It's a fun, non-pretentious place to stay for a couple of days and it could be nice for families to share a cabin and use the kitchen facilities.

We stayed here as part of a tour group and had a Double room, ensuite but with no cooking facilities as we had no need of them. The location was excellent and the cabin was of the simple rustic vintage.

The staff were absolutely fabulous and very friendly. Breakfast and dinner were both good.

Just spent a week touring the Canadian Rockies and this was our first stop in Jasper. Loved it. Room#19 was right along the river and could not have been more perfect. Rustic, but clean and everything you might need for the night. Spend a little more and get the river view (and sound!) room. Would love to come back here some day.

We stayed two nights here when visiting Jasper and had a large bungalow for 4. Whilst the setting is lovely the standard of accomodation offered is very poor. The interior of the bungalow was very old and clearly hadn't been updated in a very long time. This however would not have been such a problem if the accomodation had been clean. We arrived to find a number of dead flies on the carpet as well as rice from a previous occupant. The bath had a number of dead flies and cobwebs in it and the plates and cups in the kitchen needed washing before we could use them - one plate and a lot of left over cheese still on it. We understand it can be hard to keep interiors modern but there really is no excuse for a dirty accomodation. This was unfortunately the worst accomodation we stayed at during our 3 week holiday in Canada.

We stayed at the Bungalows for two nights. It is along the river. You can take a very short walk to it and sit on the benches to relax and watch the river flow by.

It is rustic. We had a gentleman tell us he didn't like his hotel in town because the trains awakened him several times a night. We were happy we could sleep.

The breakfast isn't extensive, but delicious—eggs, pancakes, toast, bagels and juice. Coffee and tea of course were available. There were folks who heard the elk bugling, but we slept through it.

If you are willing to drive a ways out of town, it's worth it to sleep. While there is electricity, the interior of the bungalows are painted dark brown. There were only side lights, not an overhead, so felt cozy. WiFi was available
