“Worst Stay on a 21 Day Trio”
Reviewed August 13, 2006

We had directly reserved our cabin on the Mount Park Lodges web site in early April and had received a confirming email from pocahontas@mpljasper.com (the address listed on the site). When we arrived on Saturday, July 1st, the Canadian national holiday, the front desk insisted they had no record of our reservation. When presented with the confirmation notice, the response was a categorical "that's not from us". When requested that they remedy the situation, given that there were no rooms available in a 100 mile radius, the answer was a curt. "You can complain to the manager ... on Monday morning". After a lengthy phone debate with the manger we were finally assigned our 2 bedroom "Pioneer Cabin". Unlike the photos on the site, this "rustic" cabin, with the size and ambience of a poorer garden shed, consisted of two bedrooms roughly the size of the double beds with 9-12" clearance on the circumference. The living room was so small there was no possible way for 4 persons to congregate. The kitchenette consisting of a shelf, sink and hot plate were in a deplorable sanitary state that precluded any thought of using them. All this at a cost of well over $200.00/night.

This was not only the worst stay by orders magnitude on a 21 day holiday; it was also some of the rudest treatment I have received in 35 years of traveling.

  • Liked — No redeeming features
  • Disliked — Rude unacceptable treatment by staff
  • Tips/Secrets — The facility has much higher standard cabins at very exhorbitant rates

Stayed in one of the old cabins which was badly in need of renovation. The newer cabins looked fantastic so if looking to stay here make sure you ask for one of those.

On our 1st impression here the cabin we were given was really quite awful. It was for 6 people but it was small, shabby and depressing. We asked for a bigger cabin but ended up with a deluxe 1 bedroom (for 4) and a 1 bedroom.
The older cabins are really disgusting and i would not recommend that you stay in them, however the new ones are nice but really quite pricey!
The other main gripe is that it is actually about 30mins drive into Jasper from the cabins, so it is not an ideal location.
Would not return.

My husband and I decided to try the bungalows for the first time this Easter. We were very happy with the accommodations. We stayed in the Deluxe Log Cabin and it was very cosy. I'm always a little anxious about hotels like this but I was very pleased. The cabin was very clean and warm even when there was a snowstorm outside! The location was very nice. My only criticism is that it is quite a drive from Jasper townsite. I've heard people say an hour but that is not true. We timed it and it took us 25 mins. It's quite a slow drive. We saw lots of wildlife along the way (deer, elk and sheep). I would definately stay here again.

The delux cabins are picturesque, clean, well stocked. We were tickled when we unlocked the door. Each one has a view. They are new log cabins with fridge, microwave, stove, lovely bathroom. I didn't care much for the grocery store and restaurant but so enjoyed everything else.

The restaurant had excellent food and service. There is a pool and hot tub, both outside. We recently stayed in one of these 2 bedroom cabins (Late June, 2005) Rate $125 - 145. per night. We found them well stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. but sadly missing the microwave as advertised. The cabin itself was clean but did not look well put together. The windows and doors had gaps that allowed mosquitos in. The bathroom (no lock) had new tub surround that was poorly caulked and the floor tile looked slapped together. We (2 female adults and 2 teenage male children) had two bedrooms with double beds and there was just enough room between the beds and the walls to get to the window to close the curtains. (Or you sat on the bed and rolled over to the other side.) One bed had fallen off the frame and was sagging in the middle until 2 of us lifted it back on the frame. The pull out sofa bed was situated so that once it was open there was no way to get from the bedrooms to the bathroom, refrigerator or TV (Satelite - about 8 channels) unless you went over the bed itself. So movement was restricted where the beds were concerned. However, since we did get reasonably good weather and didn't have to stay inside the cabin for much more than sleeping, it was not that bad. We had lots of towels (considering we did not all feel like using the bathtub/shower) although not all were pure white. Lots of hot water. Small bottles (1 each) of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, a shower cap, guest size bar of soap were found in the bathroom. I've been told that cabins are just non-moveable tents so we should not have high expectations. However, they do have 12 new cabins. Rates are around $195 - 250 per night. What we saw of them was inviting. We decided if we do come back again next year to pay for the more expensive cabins. The "Lodge" is more like a motel - 2 floors and located pool side. That is another alternative we will look at next time around. The grounds themselves are well kept and inviting. Miette Hot Springs are 16 KM away and Jasper is about an hours drive. We were able to drive to Sunwapta falls and visit Athabasca falls and look around Jasper all in one day. Maligne Canyon road is just outside Jasper between Jasper and Pocohontos Cabins and if you like hiking it has great trails well worth the time. All in all not bad for a short vacation.

We stayed in one of the New Log cabins for two nights last May 2004. The cabins were very clean and had everything in it for us to cook all of our own meals. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The resturant had delicious food with accomadating waitresses. We are counting the days until we return for two weeks this May 2005 and explore the area!
