“Another good stop along Icefields Parkway!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

I first passed it on our way to Jasper, because I thought that there was only a hotel there.
Actually, the fall is about a less than a half mile from there, and yes there is parking at the fall, too. There seems to be a trail to go down closer to the fall, too if you are interested.

With a lot of melted ice water feeding into the fall, it is very impressive. It is only a short, less than 5 minute walk from the parking lot, so is well worth to see. But don't know how it would look like with not much water.
If you want to buy souvenirs or use the restroom, or even have a bite to eat, I would stop by at the lodging area on your way in or out.

Nature in the raw. Can't see enough of this stuff. A must see for everybody. The weather was amazing but it would probably have looked just as goodon a rainy day.

“Deserves all the accolades”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Another impressive attraction right off the Icefields Parkway. Spectacular falls and carvings made by the power of the water flowing through. Easily accessible but like many sights on the parkway you need to have a map and do a little research because it is possible to miss it. It wasn't crowded by Miami standards but definitely by Parkway standards (more than 15 people at any attraction except the Icefields).

“Prof Jeff at Sunwapta”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

It is very easy to link a visit to these falls at the same time as visiting Athabasca Falls. But when at Sunwapta take the trail for about 2 kms to the lower falls otherwise you will miss some great sights. The trail is easy walking.

About 1 km from the main highway; not very high, but definitely worth a stop.

The area around the top of the falls is paved and just doable with a wheelchair as the path is rather steep. Also accessible is a path on the right which shows the gorge and the power of the water coming through creating a pothole with great rock formations.

Nice area for a picnic.

There are trails around to get different aspects. 1 hour hike to Lower Sunwapta - fairly flat going down a reasonably easy walk even for the unfit. The falls are not as big but nice according to my daughter, who is not particularly fit. 4-5 hours to Big Bend.
