Nice location, quirky bed situations
Review of Tekarra Lodge
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 23, 2019
The location is great. The lodge was quiet and the view along the river was wonderful. There are picnic tables and Adirondack chairs overlooking the river. It's close to town for restaurants and shopping and has convenient road access to get to places in the National Park.

Most everything was good and comfortable. The bathroom shower was fine, plenty of hot water but there was only a small amount of soap. I don't know if this was because we opted to forego housekeeping for a small discount in the restaurant. If you needed more soap they were happy to give it to you. The bathroom sink was missing a drain plug and the hair dryer fell off the wall while you were using it. Both things could be rectified easily and the lodge should take care of it. The kitchen was well stocked but could have used a good bread knife. We only ate breakfast in.

The lodge had 2 beds. However one of them was placed inside a cubby, 3 sides of the bed were enclosed by walls. It had no window. The access to the bed had a curtain you could draw to close it off from the common space. I'm 5"2" and my feet almost touched the end of the bed. If you're tall and/or claustrophobic this may be uncomfortable.
The other bed does not have a room divider and is in full view of the common rooms. It's also on the short side. The beds themselves were comfortable.

As far as the restaurant is concerned we only ate breakfast there. It was good and the servers were nice. We sat near the fireplace. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not but there was a smell of waste nearby that wasn't appetizing.

This is our 3rd visit to Tekarra Lodge and we were not disappointed! Our cabin, though small, was clean, warm and welcoming. Front desk attendant was very polite and personable. She answered all of our questions and pleasantly provided all information requested.
We dined a total of 2 breakfasts and one supper in the restaurant on the property. Each experience was pleasant - friendly, helpful staff and the food was exactly what we were looking for! BTW - the chocolate tart is to die for!!♥️
The only suggestions I would make - the smaller cabins do have too much furniture in them. I understand that the idea is to have a pull out bed but there really isn’t room in the one bedroom cabin. Two arm chairs, a small side table and a smaller dining table for two would fit the room perfectly (sorry, occupational hazard🤷🏻‍♀️). The other comment relates to the mattress - ours sagged into the middle enough to make sleeping a bit uncomfortable. Not sure if you all turn the mattresses or flip them over in a regular basis, but it might help! Noise transfer between adjoining cabins can’t be helped - we’re there for the ambiance and these cabins have been around forever! The views are breathtaking and the property is very well groomed. Sad that some of the trees are gone but understandable with pine beetle invasions.
All in all a wonderfully romantic weekend for us old married folk and we’ll be back!

Thank you Storm640!
We appreciate the feedback and will discuss the amount of furniture in each unit. We sometimes receive comments that there is not enough furniture. Each guest has different needs, for future visits we could remove some pieces for you, please just let us know at the front desk. We are in the process of replacing beds so thank you for this feedback. Have a great winter and we hope to see you again for future visits.

PS:We LOVE the chocolate tart too!!

Likely one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Truly magical to sit above where the Athabasca and Miele Rivers merge. There is a special energy at Tekarra that is impossible to describe. Jasper and the Lodge are both amazing. I highly recommend.

The cabin though small was clean and comfortable with everything you need plus the wood fire. The pancakes for breakfast were good. The view over the rivers, was amazing and serene with the amazing backdrop as well. Very close to town and only a short distance to get onto the main roads for sightseeing around Jasper and beyond to all the main attractions. Parking is beside the cabin.. The staff were great

Room tip: Very small bathroom

Great place to stay in Jasper, Alberta Canada! Friendly and helpful staff with knowledge of the area. Loved our cabin and the views were spectacular. We learned some interesting facts about the wildlife in the area at the informational talk they offered in the evening around the campfire while enjoying samores.

Room tip: Had a nice fireplace

Located 1.5km out of Jasper town centre and overlooking the river this lodge is strictly self-catering. There is a restaurant on site but that is a separate entity. The check-in procedure was performed in a manner that suggested the receptionist was tired and inattentive toward the guests and the cabins were a jumble of furniture laid out in a haphazard manner as to leave little room for manoeuvre. As self catering one would expect there to be cupboards to store food and essentials but in our cabin there was none so bread, cereal etc had to be placed on top of the fridge-freezer that stood out like a vast edifice in the middle of the small living/dining area. Other equipment noticeable by its absence was a t.v although a DVD rental service was advertised. For travellers with campers this may be OK as a place just to sleep, but for people without transport a hotel location within the town would be a far better option.

Room tip: No tip - we think they are all identical.
