“It's a 4-star hotel experience at 2-star hotel price!”
Reviewed July 7, 2009

I was so much excitingly surprised when I first opened the room door. wow, it's a 4-star hotel design inside the room for sure! And with $89 per night(expedia rate), where else can you get such a good deal???
The bed is so comfortable, the bathroom is so clean and every small details in the room has been taken great consideration.
The lobby design is very elegent and trendy, front desk staff are very polite and efficent.
Free breakfast is very nice too.
It's 100% Hidden Gem in Edmonton downtown!!!
This is a hotel that I would confidently recommend to everybody who travels to Edmonton!
And this review is for our two stays here within a week in June!
This hotel is the best value in Edmonton!!!

Was in town for a family wedding. Booked this hotel as this was the trendiest hotel w/ a really good price! ~$89/nite for 2 double beds!

The inside of the hotel is trendy, chic, and modern. According to the staff, this hotel was fully remodeled in late '07. The beds were comfy and so was the mattress. I was extremely impressed w/ the flat screen TV, Harmony universal remote (retails for ~$100 each), as well as satellite TV box in each room!

The exterior of the hotel was decrepit. Downtown Edmonton leaves much to be desired. Word on the street is that crime is a concern thus the bellman was patrolling the parking lot on a hourly basis. The parking lot was a decrepit lot behind the hotel. The asphalt was mostly broken and it seemed like a city lot more than a hotel parking lot. The exterior of the hotel was obviously also not part of the remodel in '07...

Service left much to be desired. As we requested two rooms, we requested for rooms next to each other, on the same floor, away from the elevator, and on a high level, all of which were denied since the hotel was "full" and we had a late check-in...fair. As I was about to take a shower, I noticed that the bathroom door, a sliding closet-type door, was unable to close.... Bellman came up to our room immediately and reassigned us to the room next door....WHAT? .... yup... so two rooms next to each other were available and the front desk agent LIED!

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Matrix Hotel. We were delighted to hear you were pleased with the furnishings and comfort of our guestrooms, however, disappointed to learn we were unable to accommodate your guestroom location request. We continuously work with our front line associates to ensure that guest requests are top priority and we accommodate any requirements as effectively and efficiently as possible. I sincerely apologize that in your case we fell short.

As additional value to our guests, we provide parking on a complimentary basis. Due to the fact Matrix has limited parking, we do utilize the public lots behind the hotel in order to provide this service. We have taken a pro-active approach to ensure our guests and their vehicles are safe, by ensuring our bellman & security routinely patrol the parking area.

Again, our apologies that your stay with us was less than perfect and we certainly look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly to assist you with any future bookings.

I decided to try this Hotel out as I have always had success at their other hotels (The Met and Varscona). On this trip to Edmonton I needed to be in the downtown area so the location was excellent. Parking was very convenient for a downtown hotel. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and had a wide variety. The room itself was very trendy and hip.

I will definetely be back.

I usually go with my preperred hotel chains. This is the first time I picked a boutique hotel. Stayed there for 3 nights. Happy with the experience.

Good:
1. Breakfast included was better than Holiday Inn Express Downtown.
2. Win and cheese every day except weekends. You are entitled to two glass of wine, so you can even invite a friend over.
3. Room is clean with modern decor.
4. Hairdrier is not attached to the wall. :-)
5. Staff very friendly.
6. Starbucks downstairs for coffee lovers.
7. Very comfy and light weight bath robe in the room.

Not so good:
1. Room is tiny. They don't have a point system, so I can't work my way up to an upgrade
2. The air conditioner is loud.

We took 2 rooms for 3 nights. We enjoyed the breakfast and wine and cheese at night. Parking was easy and walking downtown accesible.
The only small complaint was I had to call each day to have rooms cleaned.

Really nice hotel with a great look. The room was more than expected. Continental breakfast was really nice. The room had a great decor, as well as, a fridge for use.

The only two things that I would like to see improved is the size of the Business Centre (only 2 computers) and the sound proofing in the rooms. I could hear what amounted to a muffled noise from my room.

We checked in really late but the room was still reserved for us. We wow-ed when we opened the door to the huge room. After travelling through Banff and Jasper which had smallish adequate, basic rooms, this hotel is God's blessing for us! Everything is new and stylish. Of course this is not the first time we stay at modern and stylish hotels (you get very good hotels when you travel for business and especially in Asian countries and they are very affordable), but for the same rate we paid as our Jasper hotel, we get a room at least twice the size of that of Jasper's, many more amenities (branded and fragrant soaps, shampoos, etc), bath robe, huge king size comfortable bed, flat screen TV with countless satellite TV channels (many of which are HD), complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese tasting...... we are indeed very blessed. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Will definitely come back again if I visit Edmonton in future.
