I recently stayed there for a business trip. The staff were very nice and Friendly. The platinum suite was really clean and spacious. The restaurant was reasonable and I was also able to walk to other nice ones in downtown. Breakfast was way better than the "continental buffet" provided in most hotels in US.

We have stayed here before and we will stay here again. The location is great - situated in the centre of the downtown and within walking distance of many amenities - legislature, art galleries, and restaurants to name a few. Rooms although a bit on the small size (deluxe king) are comfortable and clean. Having said that soundproofing is lacking which is disappointing. Elevators are so slow; in fact we waited 15 minutes or more Saturday morning to access the mezzanine for breakfast. Wifi seemed spotty in the room (never had that problem before when staying here). The hotel took these concerns into account and very nicely gave us a discount on the bill much to our surprise and delight! Breakfast is great - nice selection of hot and cold dishes. Wine and cheese and snacks are offered for an hour later in the day - nice perk. We visit Edmonton often to see family and friends so will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: choose a room on a lower floor should there be problems with the elevators

After having not been to Edmonton since I was a child, this hotel looked to be really nice and in a good location. We were pleasantly suprised by everything that it offered.

The wine and cheese hour was great, the breakfast was even better (the food was of a very good quality) and the room was really nice. Although the price was little more than other hotels, the perks were well worth it. Hopefully we can stay again.

I spent a weekend at The Matrix in mid-September 2013. The hotel was well located downtown and within walking distance of many attractions including The Legislative Buildings, the historic electric tram to Old Strathcona, and the Alberta Art Gallery. Parking was a little tight but free, as was internet access, the sumptious daily breakfast buffet, and a daily wine and cheese party. Weekend rates were good ... the hotel was very clean throughout ... the staff were young, helpful, and attractive ... and the rooms were nicely furnished and very comfortable. Like many boutique hotels the rooms are not brightly lit, but there were many lamps and the decor is trendy. There is no pool but ... I am not a pool guy and I highly recomment the hotel!

Room Tip: The elevators are not fast ... rooms on lower levels might be a good idea if you are in and out alot...

Down graded to good from very good because the alarm system wasn't working. The day we checked in there were signs stating they would be working on the alarm the next day. no worries we planned around it. The night after the said repairs the alarm went off at least three times starting at 4:00 AM! Everyone looked a little sleepy at breakfast including me. The breakfasts were very good, some of the breakfasts were labelled well others not at all! i really appreciated the effort someone took to let us know what was in everything and with nice descriptions.

The hotel was clean and very easy to get around town. We parked the car and walked everywhere.

Room Tip: some times the elevator was slow, i would pick a lower floor next time.

Dear English5544,

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that your stay was disrupted by such an unfortunate event. It was a very trying morning and we really appreciate all of our guests’ patience during the fire alarm.

We do regular maintenance on all our alarm systems for the safety and convenience of our guests. It was very inopportune that there was a malfunction in the system; it was definitely not something that we planned. We have looked into the event and have rectified the issue with the company.

We appreciate your feedback on the breakfast labeling. We will ensure that our staff knows to put out all labels during the morning complimentary breakfast. We are so happy that you liked the offering. It is one of our most popular features.

Thank you very much for your response and for staying with us at the Matrix hotel. We are working towards making our hotel work at its highest efficiency and appreciate all the feedback helping us do so. If you would like to discuss this further or relay any additional suggestions, please contact me directly.

Warm Regard,

Olaf Miede

We stay here every several times a year when we come to Edmonton for business. It is nice that we continue to see the same staff at each visit. The downtown location and free parking is very convenient. We choose the higher floors because they are a bit quieter. The complimentary breakfast is fantastic and includes a different egg dish each morning as well as a meat option, oatmeal, fruits and pastries. The evening complimentary wine and cheese is also a nice way to end the day. One of the better restaurants in Edmonton is also attached to the hotel, so that is a convenient option, especially in the cold winter. The only frustration is the slow elevator service, which is worse for us because we have to ride them all the way to the top floor. The elevators are slow and the cleaning staff often use the same elevator as the guests. This means not only that guests have to stare into bins full of garbage as we ride, but also that the elevator is even slower because the staff are usually going from floor to floor i.e. two more stops along the way. It would be nice if the cleaning staff had supplies on each floor so that they didn't have to ride the elevators with guests, especially during peak times, such as check out. It would also be nice if the stairwells were unlocked so that we could take the stairs rather than wait for the elevator; however, it makes sense from a security perspective to keep them locked. This issue would not stop us from booking here again. If the elevator situation was improved, we would rate this hotel as excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to help reduce noise from the street. Make sure you place your license plate...
