“Always a great stay”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We used our points to stay here. The location and service are great as usual. The staff were helpful and most welcoming. We arrived early and they went out of their way to ensure that our room was ready. The room was clean and the breakfast the next day was excellent.

I wanted to plan a January family getaway weekend, to try to take some of the ‘blah’ out of January, so I decided to treat them to the West Edmonton Mall Waterpark. Now it was time to choose a hotel, so with the help of TripAdvisor reviews, I chose the West Edmonton Hampton Inn & Suites and used booking.com via this site to make my reservation for 2 nights. The price was right, and the hotel was in decent proximity to the Mall, little over a 5-minute drive.

Some other reviewers have complained that access to and from this hotel is an issue. I didn’t find this to be the case. Approaching it eastbound along 100th Avenue, which is one-way and not far east of the western ring road, is the easiest as you simply turn left into the hotel parking lot. If going westbound along Stony Plain Road, also one-way, turn left at 184th Street then left onto 100th Avenue; alternatively, turn left just before 100th Avenue and cut across the parking lot of the hotel to the west into the Hampton lot so you aren’t waiting to turn onto 100th Avenue.

When we arrived, the reservation was in good order, and Brenda at the front desk was naturally pleasant; she wasn’t trying to put on an act. She even found us an available room despite us showing up early to check in. When she found out the ages of our two children, 9 and 7, she gave them each a little puzzle toy, which I thought was a nice touch. When asked, she also gave us clear directions to the Mall as well as to a nearby store that we wanted to visit.

Arriving in our fourth floor room, there were no foul odors, everything was clean, and the two queen beds were neatly made. Regarding the beds, I liked the fact that you had a choice between a firm or a softer pillow, plus there was a lighter comforter to be found in the closet in case the cozy duvets were too warm. As for the mattress, there's no place like home, but these ones were a lot better than most other hotels I've stayed in; a little on the firm side, but not sagging or lumpy.

One reason why I chose this hotel over the Fantasyland Hotel at the Mall was how some people have mentioned that the rooms are quiet, and this is true except for when there’s a crying or running kid in the hallway. But this is far better than being able to hear a TV blaring or snoring in a neighboring room, which is the case in a lesser hotel and which I’ve heard is the case for an extra $100+ per night at the Fantasyland.

If I could have improved one thing about the room, it would have been to lower the bathroom counter. It was simply too large for our 7-year-old to reach on her own and a stretch for our 9-year-old boy.

I was most impressed by the included breakfast, mainly because it included protein like eggs, yogurt, and oatmeal and not just some donuts and bagels. Speaking of the latter, I found it surprising that there were no bagels, although one of the desk clerks said they were there; they either ran out both mornings or else I was blind. Nevertheless, there was a great deal of choice. For example, you could eat pre-made pancakes or cook your own pancakes and waffles. As a suggestion, health-conscious individuals like me would have appreciated the option of a whole-wheat or multi-grain batter, as well as whole oatmeal that wasn’t so ‘gooey’ like the quick oats they served. Otherwise, there was nothing disappointing about the breakfast, which also included fruit and cereals.

As far as fun for the kids, since the Mall was our main focus for the weekend I wasn’t too concerned that there was just a basic swimming pool, hot pool, and a little kids’ shallow splash pool. In other words nothing fancy, not even a diving board. Nevertheless, kids being kids, everybody there had a great time and, like everything else, the pool area was clean and well kept.

I would certainly choose this hotel again for a visit to West Edmonton Mall or even to Edmonton in general. In addition to the Mall, there is a large abundance of other shopping and restaurants in the area, all within a short distance.

My husband and I took his three children here for one last weekend getaway before their new brother or sister arrives. We spent Saturday at the West Edmonton Mall World Waterpark and then Sunday at Galaxyland, with the hotel being our place to rest in between.

Check in was a breeze and the front desk agent was especially friendly. Our 4 year old was joking around and popping his head over the counter saying "room service", and she thought he was especially cute, which he is, and even gave him a cool football keychain.

We booked the double queen suite, which had 2 queen size beds and a pull out couch, and it was enormous, it had more than enough space for the 5 of us and would be more than adequate when child #4 is here.

The room was immaculate, and very nicely updated. We had no complaints whatsoever.

Breakfast was included in the stay and surpassed our expectations with plenty of quality choices.

We will definitely stay here again the next time we bring the family to Edmonton.

Wonderful experience. Very clean, spacious room. Had the two queen suite, which included a bar area, mini fridge, microwave.
Thoughtful touches were the popcorn and chocolate.
Manager's reception was a welcome treat after a brutal winter drive. Went from 5-7 and included beer and wine as well as appies from the restaurant across the parking lot. The restaurant also included a 15% off coupon if you came by for a meal.
TV had movies that could be rented.
Was upgraded to the suite as I am a diamond HH member, which was very thoughtful. Staff were fabulous, there was a pool area with a hot tub and a fitness room that looked immaculate and had very new equipment.
Excellent beds, very quiet at night.

Walking in to the hotel, the front staff greeted us right away and made us feel welcomed as we were in a city we were unfamiliar with. Check-in was super fast and efficient with no problems what so ever. Parking was great, with lots of options as opposed to other hotels we had looked at. All necessities were available to us without issues or questions. The location of the hotel was fantastic; super close to the mall which was super convenient seeing as that's why we came to Edmonton! The pool was a great place to go and unwind after a day of shopping. I honestly have nothing bad to say at all about my stay and would not think twice about staying here for my next visit it Edmonton! Highly recommended!

We just arrived, a couple hours early, hoping to be able to check in anyways. We were greeted by smiling faces, a great welcome and a "no problem" to checking in early! The room is spotless and the bed is great! We will post more after our ten day stay and after we eat the breakfast and swim in the pool!
