It's easy to walk right by Tzin without noticing it; in fact, I had done so many times before a friend booked three of us in for wine and tapas last Friday night. Our initial plan was to have some wine and a dish or two before heading elsewhere for a more substantial dinner, but the food and service were so exceptional that we ended up spending the entire evening at Tzin. It really was a perfect way to escape Edmonton's frigid winter, if only temporarily: the cozy ambiance, warm service, and super-tasty food made this a wonderful night. We were treated with such generosity and kindness by Glenn and his staff who went out of their way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. The braised bacon dish was a melt-in-your-mouth highlight, as were the scallops. The mushroom and spinach tart and patatas bravas are other must-haves. There's an impressive and ample wine list, and the staff are more than happy to make recommendations.

Pricier than the average restaurant, yes, but worth every penny. Reserve in advance.

I Visited the restaurant for annual holiday celebration with friends. This restaurant is tiny. We had three people crammed into a tiny table against a bench with way too many pillows. After settling in, moving the pilows around and receiving great service we ordered 5 tapas for our table. They came out mostly staggered, important for the size of the table. When more than two tapas were at the table we found the space too cramped. It did feel at times that we were too close to our neighbours, so it may not be the best choice if you are not feeling chatty.

There were interesting choices on the with at least three or four meatless options. Dessert was excellent as well. A nice place to go for something delicious or different. Book ahead.

This place reminds me of Europe. From the friendly welcome you receive from the staff, to the extensive wine list. The tapa plates are small, but perfect for sharing, and a great excuse to try a few dishes. Recommended.

Starting with a genuinely attentive and very friendly server we enjoyed two different glasses of red, both superb. Succulent and meaty shrimp in a delectable sauce and duck with risotto were both extremely tasty and excellently prepared. Tzin is a great little place.

We had a great time last night at Tzin. The place is very very small so I would strongly recommend reservations to avoid disappointment. We had a reservation but the previous party hadn't finished yet so we got a spot at the bar and they served us our first round of wine and appetizer there before we were moved over to our table.

Really delicious food and very interesting wine choices.

They call their style tapas but really it is more of a small sharing-plate style. At up to $19, the prices make the dishes too expensive to be called snacks or appetizers, but the portions are still too small to call a main dish. For a dinner I would recommend 3-4 dishes between two people. The quality of the ingredients and the presentation made up for the portion size, and lots of the dishes are somewhat rich so a little goes a long way (e.g. braised bacon crostini).

Again, the wines were on the pricey side ($12.50 for a glass), but they compensate for that by offering an extra large 6 oz pour and the choices are really interesting and hard to find at other bars/restaurants. I tried two wines, one of which was suggested by the host, and was not disappointed. They also offer a small sampler size of 2 oz. for about $5-6 if you want to try a taste of numerous wines without going overboard.

Looking forward to going back!
