“University Area Fave”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

I've eaten here three times in the last week. My highest recommendation right now is the black bean chili, topped with melted cheese and chaperoned with cornbread. Good choices for table wines. Moosewood-style food. Has a menu that hasn't changed for years, maybe decades, but also more adventurous daily specials. Packed for breakie on Saturday mornings. I see lines as I go to my office on Saturdays so it must be good. (Haven't tried myself.) Ukrainian food available on Thursdays.

“The celiac menu was the only redeeming quality for this restaurant, I was expecting a lot better based on the reviews...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

Not my favourite selection, very few options, especially for picky eaters. Ridiculously long wait on a week day night, would have gone almost anywhere else on Whyte Ave after that meal. The redeeming qualities of this restaurant are the gluten free options, the hormone free/free range meats, if this is important to you, you might like this restaurant. Otherwise I suggest somewhere else...

“YUM! Not Sure Why It Took Me So Many Years To Come Back...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

I ate here years ago with a vegetarian friend - this was one of her favourite places to eat when she lived in Edmonton - and just came back for the second time for lunch. As before, the good is great, with generous portions. Besides having a good selection of items for vegetarians, the restaurants sources meats that are raised organically. They even make and bottle their own home-made ketchup, which is really yummy and tastes like fresh tomatoes.

The décor is cozy and eclectic, with mismatched antique tables and chairs and a beautiful "divider" wall of many hanging stained glass pieces that sparkle beautifully in the afternoon sun.

Free parking is located in a small parking lot across the street.

“Best breakfast joint in Edmonton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

We have been enjoying the breakfast and atmosphere at the High Level Diner for years now. It is one of our favourite family outings. The food is always good - both in quality and in flavour. There is always a line up on weekends. In winter when it is cold out everyone is crammed in a narrow passage anxiously awaiting a table...and the wait never disappoints!

“A Family Favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

If you like good food, and a warm pleasant dining experience, I would suggest the High Level Diner. We often enjoy the Mediterannean Platter topped off with a home made dessert. The local scenery is interesting as the restaurant is near the University and it is a short walk to Whyte Avenue and the Garneau Movie theatre (plays alternate films). You are probably going to be glad you paid it a visit.
