I've been here four times or so over the last few years, and have found it to be a reliable alternative to the usual places (Hardware, Harvest Room, Jack's), though perhaps aspiring to a less formal and less pretentious niche. However, my most recent visit was rather disappointing. I found the service to be inattentive to an extreme, and I was shocked by the amount of food on the plate given the price of the entrees. I would have a hard time recommending Madison's Grill for a "special dinner" given this experience.

My husband and I were gifted a hotel package at the Union Bank Inn from some family for Christmas last year and we decided to have dinner at Madison's instead of dining elsewhere. First, yes it is expensive for dinner, but it's a beautiful location, the service is excellent, and the food was amazing. Alcohol is a little overpriced, but that seems to be the norm at most restaurants. Dinner was great and we had a great romantic evening. Breakfast was included as well, they have a pretty limited menu but all the breakfast favorites are there - I highly recommend the smoked salmon eggs benedict!

Stayed at the Union Bank Inn via Livingsocial deal, which included a $25 credit at Madison's. The dining room is beautiful, and the service was generally excellent.

However, at entree prices of $36 and $38, we expected something special for the food...and we didn't get it. My beef tenderloin was undercooked and nearly flavorless. My wife's Sea Bass was "OK" but nothing special.

We tried for the 'wine taster' (3 for $35), but were just charged for three different glasses of wine, including a $6 glass of port with dessert, and it totalled $30. So I'm not sure how that deal is supposed to work, and you have to really scour the menu for any mention of it. Waiter seemed taken aback when we found it on the menu and ordered it, but he tried to be very helpful.

So - expensive food & drink (and not worth the cost in our opinion), beautiful dining room, excellent service.

Breakfast was a different experience - service was very indifferent and it was clear that they, unlike the dinner staff, didn't really care that much about your experience.

The food was OK, and not nearly as expensive as dinner ($12 for most items on the menu, like 2 eggs, potatoes, and excellent maple sage sausage, or $12 for Eggs Benedict).

So for an upscale place, we were disappointed in the lacklustre service for breakfast.

We won't be hurrying back anytime soon for either dinner or breakfast. Had much better-tasting food at Cactus Club Cafe just two nights later, for much less.

We enjoyed two meals at the Madison’s Grill during our stay at the Union Bank Inn. The restaurant is historically decorated with comfortable intimate seating arrangements. The restaurant also offers a private meeting room for business gatherings or larger group bookings.

Supper: We went on a Tuesday Evening in which we were one of four couples dining. The atmosphere was relaxing and quiet; perfect for a couple looking for an evening retreat. The meal was costly with all our courses and drinks but was well worth it. The food from their new menu was delicious and well presented. I enjoyed the Butter Chicken prepared in gourmet fashion not in a typical Indian serving; it was paired and seasoned exquisitely with vegetables. My husband chose a steak with fabulous potatoes and vegetables. Both meals were well prepared and well presented.

Breakfast: Available at no charge to guests of the Union Bank Inn was more than we expected. We were able to order any item from the menu as part of our hotel stay. We both choose omelets which were prepared with fresh selections.

Overall the atmosphere and mature staff made for an intimate fine dining experience in which we will definitely return to enjoy again.
