“Lackluster”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Our waitress was not well-versed in the menu, and unsure about ingredients and when asked to check on the presence of an ingredient (allergy) in menu items she checked only 2 items. When asked about more menu items, she responded, "I don't have time to check everything." She reached across the table continuously, had us passing dishes to her rather than walking around the table and picked up food items and glasses without checking if we were finished. The one salad on the menu was not flavorful and the very thin uncooked root vegetables adorning it were tough. A minute sprinkling of feta was not enough to flavor the abundance of greens, much of which was stems (please trim the greens so I don't feel like livestock grazing). The vegetables on the main courses were cooked to perfection, the fish was superb, the steak good, but not special and the bison short ribs tougher than they should be and with a sauce that tasted like a powdered gravy mix. The recommended wine was reasonably priced and tasty. In all, the experience left us wanting. We would need a lot of endorsement to persuade us to return.

“Great New Bistro in Edmonton Downtown Core”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Bistro Saisons (French) www.bistrosaisons.ca located at 113 St & 104 Ave, Edmonton – in the Oliver Square complex - is a gem. It’s a small (20+ tables and a couple of large booths) bistro that has a higher end feel to it, yet somehow doesn’t feel too formal or stuffy. I could bring my Mom here and she would enjoy it too. It’s the kind of place you could go, anytime, for a more fine dining experience at prices comparable to an Earls or Joey’s (which I also like, just fine).

We were there on Sat. for brunch (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and had Quiche with salad/fruit, and strawberry stuffed Pancakes with maple butter and bacon, each costing only $12. The service was friendly and good.

They are open for dinner Tues. through Sat. from 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (but are open to hosting private functions on their closed nights – how do we know – we asked!).

We plan to go back again soon; a nice bistro like this can be hard to find in the downtown core.

“French themes, delicious, great staff”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This was our second visit in two weeks.
The first was for a communal dinner based around prok on your fork
Three course dinner, with pork as a theme, great salads, cassoulet, roast pork and a delicous chocolate cake with a delicious chocolate bacon icing.

It was the end of the week, we were beat... looking for eats, and decided to return to sample their main menu. Summary: delicious. My spouse had the entrecote, very lovely , I had the shortribs , and we shared her frites, , and our pal had the chicken livers (daring) , all very tasty.
The staff on each nite were superb,
Its a fun place, and tasty..

“Just like my home town cooking in France”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Everything is done with passion and finesse! All the flavours come though in every dish. It's not a wine bar but still had many delectable wines to choose from. Servers were very attentive and friendly. Love that they buy locally and have organic ingredients!

“French "Wanna-be"”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Ok, if you want to be a French restaurant, first things first - wine is everything to the French. The wine list is definitely wanting an improvement.

Don't have the pate - it's more like head cheese. And certainly don't mention that to the waitress if she's the chef's wife, she was insulted and wouldn't serve us anymore and gave us a junior server, who actually was much more pleasant.

If you ask for salt and pepper, it will come mixed together, so if you like one more than the other - too bad. That's what you get because the chef thinks that what you should get.

Finally, if you serve Frites, you must must must have mayonnaise.

My suggestion is for the chef to actually spend some time in France if he wants to emulate French cooking

Terrible experience from start to finish. Won't go back.
