“Fantastic burgers”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Burger focused, so limited menu, but boy do they know what they are doing! Fresh, wide range of topping selections, huge portions ( hint: get the small burger and share fries). All made to order, hand cut fries. When busy it takes a bit for your order to come up, but worth every minute. Best burger I have ever had.

Warning: peanuts everywhere (boxes of unshelled peanuts in line as you are waiting), so best avoided for anyone with a peanut allergy.

“Try it for retro atmosphere but peanut allergy sufferers stay away.”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

This review is for the South Edmonton Five Guys location.
Five Guys South Edmonton Common 10161-13 Avenue NW
With the hype surrounding Five Guys, decided to check this place out. The place was packed around 6pm but the restaurant still have a lot of seating. The table turnover was quite fast which helps. The colour scheme of the place is white and red, and it has the theme of a retro burger joint. You have elevated tables and chairs and you also have normal height table and chairs too. You look at their menu which is quite small as the only things they serve are drinks, milkshakes, burgers, hotdogs, fries and onion rings. They have simplified the types to a handful. Ordered their bacon cheeseburger, little hamburger, small fries and regular drink. Drinks are refillable, self serve in the dining area with two sets of machines offering Coca Cola beverages including Fresca and Fruitopia. There are lots of toppings offered such as relish, onions, grilled onions, pickles,, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, jalepeno, tomatoes, lettuce, grilled mushrooms, green peppers, Steak sauce, barbque sauce and hot sauce. To simplify your topping selections, you can choose to say All the Way or Everything to choose from one of the two rows of toppings. Your order is made when you order so it will take about 10 minutes before its ready. Meanwhile, there are going to be messy peanut shells patrons discard on the floor as they actually serve peanuts while you wait. So you go to one of the sacks of peanuts, grab a cardboard platter, and scoop your peanuts to it and much on them while you wait. To add to the retro theme, they also have boxes and sacks of the materials they use to make your food in between the cooking area and dining room. You can self dispense your own ketchup and napkins, knife and forks and vinegar. This is handy as the burgers are messy with that much toppings. You must specify single or double patties too on your burger. No matter if you dine in or take out, your order comes in a large brown bag and your burgers are wrapped in aluminum foil. And your fries is a old style cup. Even though its small fries it is about $3.50 and its enough to share between two people. I can also taste the freshness of the burger as it does not have that mainstream fast food chain taste to it. Yes, it is pricey for a burger to cost $8.50 and no combo but that’s the way it is. Got to pay for the condiments somehow. Taste of the burger is good and bun is sufficient however, it will be messy to eat due to the toppings you put on. Fries are regular cut with the skin on still, fried in 100% Peanut oil. All peanut allergy sufferers must not come here as there are peanuts everywhere on the floor and in your food.
I am disappointed that the fries are not crispy as I would expect even though its freshly made. Is it the peanut oil they use, the amount of time they cook it, the skin on the fries, or is it too thick of a cut that is contributing to its sogginess?
If you never tried it, come here to try it, but I would not eat here ALL THE TIME unless you want to grease up. I would still go to Fatburger or Red Robins instead down the road since I love to have an egg top my burger.

“Hold The Salt!”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

My boyfriend and I tried this place in May 2012 as it had just opened. This place was really busy and there didn't appear to be enough tables for everyone to sit at. The burgers are a little more than what you may pay at a fast food restaurant but they are really good and they taste fresh! You can pick all the toppings you want at no extra charge. We shared a bag of fries as they are quite large and too much for one person. The only down side to this visit was the salt on the fries. WAY too much! We couldn't even enjoy them. At one point I was actually using a napkin to rub the salt off but no luck so we just threw them out. Other than the salt issue it was pretty good. While you are waiting for your food you can grab a little container and fill it with peanuts (in shells). We didn't have any but a lot of people seemed to be enjoying them. I will eat here again but maybe when it gets a little less busy and when they tone down the salt ;)
